West Coast University Miami (Doral), Florida

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello Everyone,

I am starting this post for anyone attending or applying to West Coast University in Miami (Doral) Florida. West Coast University has a brand spanking new campus in Florida and they are offering a 39 month BSN program. I am currently going through the admissions process. The staff is extremely professional and helpful. So far I am very impressed. Getting into nursing school in South Florida is very competitive and WCU is helping to make this a seamless process for me.

Please voice your thoughts, comments etc.

Hi kbonzon! I used the teas manual from ati and also did two practice tests on ati. You can go to ati.com. Hope this helps!

Good Morning kbonzon. Don't feel bad and please DO NOT give up. There is much hope for you. You can still be conditionally accepted into the pre-nursing courses and West Coast will give you up to 1 year to study and attempt the TEAS V again.

My advice is to get the TEAS V preparation book and go through it from cover to cover. West Coast will give you a free copy. There are 2 full practice exams at the back of the book. You can measure your performance from these practice exams. I found that the practice exams were a bit harder than the actual TEAS V. Luckily West Coast only requires a 59% if my memory serves me right. The school that I will be attending required a minimum of 85%. You can also go to ATI.com and purchase additional practice TEAS V exams. The questions are exactly like the actual TEAS, but just a bit more difficult. It's great practice and worth the money.

I dedicated a full 3 weeks to just going through the entire book and all of the practice exams from the book and ATI. I am 37 years old and I have been out of school for over 14 years. You can do it as well. I also used a bit of the following to boost my practice:

* Khan Academy (good for the chemistry)

* McGraw Hill's 5 TEAS Practice Tests

* www.youtube.com/user/mrfordsclass/playlists?shelf_id=8&view=50&sort=dd

* http://www.academictips.org/memory/index.html

I live in Broward County and the technical schools have TeasV Prep classes for $40 per semester. You can also practice on line. Try Sheridan, McFatter or Atlantic College. You would first need to do the TABE and enter LPN as your interest. Once you pass the TABE you can take a TEAS prep. They say that the TEAS mimics the new High School Diploma requirements. I would just take some time off and study the book and the other resources.

I wish you success. Please post to let me know how everything works out. One more thing. Nigel Talbot- Paul is the best admissions counselor there at West Coast.

Hi NoelleBSN. It is Remington College of Nursing. It's a little bit north of Orlando. It's not at all fancy and high tech as West Coast, but I am pressed for time as I am a little bit on the older side and need to get it done quicker and for less money. I am still extremely impressed by West Coast and I know that you will do well there.

Planning on taking the TEAS next week for WCU. This school is soo costly but I really think its worth it for me and my situation.

QUESTION: Has anyone been told if the get a certain passing score that they will qualify for scholarships? Also Ready4Nurse what scholarships were you asking the other person about and what scholarships do you know of that they offer. I sit realistic to think that with my pell grant, stafford loans and possible scholarships that I can have the cost covered without private loans?

NoelleBSN what scholarships did you qualify for and which ones are you applying for? How do you like it so far?

what scholarships did you receive and which ones are you applying to? Did you get all of your cost covered? did you need private loans?

This public website has recorded classes for each section of the TEAS. There are videos on every subject. I used it to improve my science score.

Hello Dognursefornow,

I have been advised that there is a scholarship for TEAS over 85%, and Access grant and a scholarship for maintaining a 3.5 GPA in the program. If you manage to get these scholarships, you should not have to get private loans. You would still need to get your PELL, FRAG and regular student loans. Bear in mind that you would have to successfully complete 1 semester with a 3.5 GPA prior to getting the GPA scholarship.

I am thinking about attending this school. Are the class sizes big? What is the out of pocket cost?

Hi Noelle, how do you like the school? Do they accept transfer credits? Are there a lot if students in the class?

Hello NoelleBSN , im consiering going to west coast but im not sure . How is it so far ?

Have you read over the catalog for west coast? Did you get accepted?

I am so nervous about going to a private university. So many local (miami) private universities have horrible reviews.

I am scheduled to take the entrance for West Coast after Jan 6th.

I was reading over the police. It you receive a c- it isn't considered passing and you have to retake the course. aside from that you are only allowed to fail 2 courses throughout your program. if any more then 2 you get the boot!

I just applied at MDC for Fall 2015. I am going to broward to take the entrance exam as well and Keiser....

well good luck to you! Hope to see you in the field.
