West Coast University graduates

U.S.A. California

Hey, I'm considering applying to WCU (specifically their LA campus.) I'd love to hear any and all first hand experiences from graduates of their BSN program. I'm generally very skeptical of for-profit schools, but I've come across some good experiences with their program so I'm curious to hear more.

Hi everyone,

I'm reviving this topic a bit. I had a questions mostly about scheduling...

I'm going to the Anaheim campus this weekend for their open house. I had initially written off WCU because of the high cost, but I do have my AS already with a majority, if not all, my prerequisites done, so that would potentially shave off 20k (!!!). I saw in the tuition breakdown that there is full time, 3/4 time, and part time (1/2). What is that like? Has anyone on this thread had any experience with that. What days are you in class and clinical? Are weekends options? Thanks in advanced!

Hi Kelly, Did you decide to move forward with WCU? I was scheduled to meet with them but backed out- the price is scary and some bad experiences scare me. I have a previous BA and all pre-reqs done, but I just am unsure if its even worth considering, or just wait for an ADN program and hopefully get in eventually.

I scheduled my HESI, then rescheduled. I don't think I'm going to take it... It's possible I may have missed my rescheduled test. I have to go back and return the book. I agree - price is scary! 3 years and not being able to work is also scary. If you can travel or move, I'm working on prereqs for Concordia University in Portland. They're a 16 month hybrid program.

Did you check out the 15 month A-BSN program at Concordia University at Irvine ?

Yeah, I've done the research and applied to just about anywhere in CA. From my understanding all the ABSN programs through California are just as difficult for acceptance as the ADN's are no matter STATS and the waiting is what is most difficult. My STATS are by no means exactly "perfect" but I do have friends with nearly perfect STATS stuck in the same predicaments.

Are you enrolled at Concordia?

i’m blessed to have family out of state so i applied to an ABSN program out of state and was accepted less than month later for like wayyyy less then the price of WCU. i would love to stay in state but the price of west coast is scary, my stats aren’t amazing, and the waitlists are scary. i just wanna start my career. i’m sad but it’s only for year! good luck guys!

I hear out of state is such a less stressful process, I wish I had done this when I moved out of CA for a while. Congratulations!

so much less stressful and cheaper. and like the schools are kind of shorter..my program is 12 months but with all the breaks it comes down to 10 months. with good nclex pass rates. i feel like i wasted so much time and energy trying to get into an in state school. like a huge weight has been lifted. should’ve done this months ago! my only concern will be trying to find a job in calif. afterwards but for now i’m happy

No, I’m think of applying to maybe 3 ABSN programs that are here in la ( mount st Mary, Csun and maybe Concordia) . But like you mentioned my stats aren’t perfect, so I’m really scared I won’t get into any programs. I also found a MSN entry level program in Pomona.

I started in June at WCU, I really like it, It initially was out of question for me because of the cost but after 2 years of not getting into any community ADN programs, I did not want to wait any longer. I am starting nursing core next month and I really like the organization and flow of each class leading to another and it all builds upon each other. I did get some private scholarships so that helped me, I think this school is worth it and it will pay off if you dont want to wait any longer. Alot of my classes transfered over so that helped with the cost. If you dont have any prereq's I would highly recommend taking your prereqs somewhere else to save money. I hope this helps. Good luck!

Thank you! I am projected to start in April at the Orange County Campus, and only have to do the few required pre-reqs through WCU. I love that they also accept courses through straighterline and they allow you to test out of courses too. I have put in for private scholarships and also the WCU merit scholarship- so fingers crossed! I am glad to hear you like it, I was so nervous but I am so excited.

I have been considering WCU in North Hollywood after not being able to get into a ADN program at a CC. I have all my GE completed but I am afraid of the tuition cost, I've heard it can be a lot even with prereq's completed. Can anyone kindly share approx how much I can expect to pay. Thank you in advance!
