West Coast University. Good School?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello, I'm trying to apply to any BSN programs in Los Angeles Area and I noticed West Coast University doesn't have too much requisite. I hear you could take Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology, Developmental Psych, and all the prerequisite required for Cal State University and decrease the amount of classes to take at WCU. Some people say they lowered their tuition to 80 to 90 thousands. Should I apply to WCU? I've taken all the prerequisite for CSU and was wondering if these will transfer to WCU.

Wcu is a good school. One of my friends went there for the BSN pre-licensure. I heard its about $135k for the whole program, which I think it's super expensive. I don't know if you are willing to move out of state, but I just saw a post from another member on here on University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (public school -www.utc.edu). She said it is very easy to get in. It is a public school too, so it won't be that expensive. You should check it out!

It really doesn't matter if it's a 'good' school or not. $80k for a degree in a state with ridiculously high unemployment for newly-graduates nurses is insane.

You can get a quality education for a fourth the cost- and not be saddled with crushing debt for a decade to come.

PS: Define 'good'.

Yeah, I'm planning on staying in California and WCU is my safe bet. I looked into Chattanooga and they said it takes four years to complete, which I don't want to do. WCU on the other hand is 39 month. I was even thinking about getting an ADN degree at the community college because I finished my prereqs. I have pretty good GPA for Prereq but my Bachelor's GPA sucks. I really want to go to CSULA and spoke with advisers. They said I'm in a pretty good standing (have 21 points out of 31 thanks to my Bachelors), but to be competitive, I need about 25 points. I'm really scared of not getting in and I really don't want to move out of state. I don't know if I could get a job after I graduate and might end up with huge loans if I go out of states. I would rather get an ADN degree from CC and work on RN to BSN program...

By good school I meant if I graduate, can I get hired right away. Since there's virtually no jobs for new grads in california, I was even thinking about going to CC to get ADN and maybe work on RN to BSN program. I was wondering, what type of jobs can I get with ADN degree?

Can you "get hired right away" if you graduate from a good school? If I understand you correctly, you are already aware that there is virtually no open employment for new grads in California.....even for BSN.....and you are considering ADN? AND you believe that the choice of school will create an opening where there isn't any already?

Further....while I appreciate the desire to get through school more quickly, it makes absolutely no sense to me to add tens of thousands of dollars onto an already exorbitant tuition bill when there's almost no chance of paying it off.

If u took all your prerequisites and ready to admit to the BSN pre licensure program, you are considered as a transfer student and should be done in 2 1/2 yrs. take a look at their sample curriculum of class. Ex: fall 2015- 3 classes, spring- 3 classes, summer - 2 classes, etc. I'm sure it's way cheaper and fully accredited.

As far as for jobs in California, you would have to relocate and get your experience in an acute care settings ( hospital) for 1 yr and then come back to the state.
