West Coast University and college network such a rip off!!!

I just got back from my meeting at WCU and wow i cant believe people actually sign up for this school.....I really believe people that sign up here don't really understand what there paying for or read the contract....I was interested in the LVN to RN program..quoted 67000 for the whole program but told by the sales rep that if i had most of my pre reqs it would be a lot less since I'm only taking the nursing classes...well i have all my prereqs and all i needed was the one biochem class that they require....so i sat down with financial aid to get things rolling...well it turns out that having all may prereqs made very little difference in price it dropped from 67000 to 55000....i was stumped... how can i have taking all these classes and which is almost half of there Curriculum and still be at 55000....it didn't make sense to me..so i went back to the sales rep and she explained that they charge by semester and went on with her convoluted story.....told me that when i start i will be half time student this semester and full time next and 3/4 after and did not make sense.......well thats when i took out the contract they gave me and read it.....WCU charges by the semester anywhere from 13000 to `16000. so it turns out me taking the one biochem class they require before i can start to take the nursing classes is going to cost me 13000 for one class exactly 10 weeks....then after that i can start nursing classes where i would be taking 2 classes which would cost me 15000 for one semester and 2 classes....and so on basically your paying for the semester not for the class so. and they dint offer every class every semester....so your stuck taking 2 or 3 classes every semester ....and it adds up quick 16000 per 2 classes....and it doesn't matter if you have prereqs they still stretch out your remaining class to over a year...more semesters your there the more they get paid........I also ask the sales rep if they ADN transfers to any other college ..if i wanted to go to bsn ...response was i had to do my homework about that and they have a bsn program...so i did....well i would basically be paying 55000 for a degree that transferrers no where except universty of phoenix and i believe cal state....to me its not worth it.....i also looking into ISU not threw the college network...thats another rip off......they have a online bsn which is gonna cost me about 17000 for two years......Another thing i realized that most people who sign up for WCU or ISU thew the college network just dint want to put in the time to research what they are getting into and get conned by slick sales reps....take your time and do research....there are so many programs out there....

the person that was named earlier was the rep i spoke to ....one more thing i remember i came in an took the entrance hesi and she could not even remember my name after passing the entrance hesi... twice she call me by another name

The LVN to RN (Associate Degree in Nursing) program would require (based on the current tuition schedule):

Semester 1: ½ time with 8 credits (20 weeks) - $10,375

Semester 2: Full time with 16 credits (20 weeks) - $16,000

Semester 3: ½ time with 8 credits (10 weeks) - $10,375

Total Tuition: $36,750

I dunno how you can even type it with a straight face.

Semester 1: $1296 per credit hour

Semester 2: $1000 per credit hour

Semester 3: $1296 per credit hour

Not even the Ivy Leagues charge over $1000 per credit. There are several for-profit nursing schools in my area and they are all charging around $500 per credit. When you say the whole program is only $36,750, it almost does make it sound reasonable - until you realize how few credits you're taking for that $36750.

I just wanted to comment on the college network. Before I started researching how the best, fastest and cheapest way was to get my BSN, i felt like every credit I had taken at other colleges was a waste, because nowhere would take them as credit being from a long time ago. The College Network collected all of my transcripts and ISU accept my English, Math, Bio and Psych from 10 years ago. The College Network also gave me th information I needed to test out of the pre-req's that I had not taken. I never knew I could do that. I have 5 kids and 1 whom is severly handicapped, and thinking about spending another 4-5 years in shool to get my BSN made me want to quit. But I have tested out, and have all pre-req's and now attend a real university. It was 12,000 for EVERYTHING. I was given a payment plan for an affordable amount each month, and each time I wanted to take a test-out, they sent me a check, even though I may not have even paid fully for that test yet.

Unless you are actually being ripped off, like your money was taken and you got nothing for it, it is rude and pretentious to assume that a college that you do not attend is a rip-off.

I applied there and passed the HESI i am very worried about the cost and the different weird hours they have

RN from WCU is only accepted at university of phoenix no where else, so if i wanted to get a BSN at a later time i would not be able to go any place else except back to WSU

That's not true actually. I did research, and a lot of schools including UCLA, UCI, most Cal States, and others accept WCU's BSN grads for higher education. I myself was thinking of attending this school, and was worried about their status, and accreditation. Not only did I find out there's a lot of schools that accept their credits, a lot of hospitals love their graduates UCI med center especially! Good luck!

What campus are you attending? I am considering WCU as a last option. The tuition is what turns me off. How good are they with helping you out with getting financial aid? Do you know if they allow you to defer payment after graduation? It would be impossible to work and attend class if you had to pay them monthly. Any advice or info would be appreciated and good luck!

I have to agree somewhat with their customer service. When I went for an info session, I did feel like "a number" instead of a person. The cold receptionist and another office worker with 4 inch heels, cattled us into her office for instructions. I almost feel as though their attitude is...ok you're here because you have no other choice and so deal with it hahaha.

BUT...if you can get pass that and all the other drama and just focus on what really is important, which is getting your RN BSN, then you will be fine. I wish you and everyone who's pursuing their goals the very best of luck! Don't ever give up on your dreams!

Just came back from an Info Session and I eagerly await to start the BSN program at WCU. I have done my research and I have read countless threads on all nursing schools. No one wants to be put on a wait-list or have their names pulled out of lottery. No One. I chose WCU because you start right away. When it comes down to it, all you have to do is make a choice in the value of your BSN education and the time well spent on your education. Yes the cost is HIGH at WCU and there may be negative opinions you hear from other people who talk bad about WCU, but in the end, it is the EFFORT you put into your education and the REWARDS you will get out of your education. Nursing education is TOUGH and no matter how hard the teachers are or how mean/malicious they can be to you, it is really about taking your nursing education experience and making THE MOST out of it. You work hard to get what you want. Nursing professors are not just there to spoon feed you information, there is a reason why they are tough. How else can you be successful as a nurse if u dont study hard to be one?? You can complain all you want, but there are people who are willing to pay loads of money at WCU because they know it is WORTH it and they believe that every minute of their nursing education is one step closer to their goal in getting their BSN.

What you put in, is what you get out. Simple as that. Whatever nursing school anyone chooses, make the most out of your education no matter how hard, tough, negative people/professors can be. My boyfriend graduated in a program (not wcu) where he was surrounded by people who constantly complained about teachers, the program, and how the the school was robbing their money. My boyfriend simply stayed focused on his goal, surpassed all the negativity, graduated and where is he now? Newly grad hired at UCLA. :up:

I think wcu costs way too expensive, and some people cnt come up with that money, how do you guys will support the living cost on top of the tuition?

Any other sugestion which route to take beside private school that still take you quicker to be an rn or get your bsn?

plus with all this waiting list i heard the demand of rn is actually decreasing? is that true?
