So as I posted before I was having a slight issue with my family not accepting that I wanted to leave the corporate world and follow my dream of nursing.
Well I am pleased to inform you all that they are now on board!!!! I followed the advice you all gave me and began to move in silence and I will be graduating in May 2018 finishing my AAS before going back to pursue my ADN or BSN (haven't decided yet).
This forum has been a tremendous help to me. I always had my boyfriend on my side as one of my biggest support systems but he is an Educator and didn't also understand my nursing lingo and this forum has helped me reclaim my confidence in so many ways. So to all of you....THANK YOU!!!
ALL NURSES STAND UP!!!!

AAS & ADN are the same thing.
No AAS is the Associate of Applied Science and an ADN is an Associate Degree of Nursing í ½í¸€ see two different things.
Associate degree in nursing is an AAS. I know this for a fact because that was my basic nursing education.
Well in the state of Texas and the program I am in they are two different things an AAS does not mean a nursing degree only an ADN means you have an Associate of Nursing and thus are able to take the NCLEX. Now if you had an AAS with a concentration in Nursing I understand where your facts are derived. But an AAS is just an Applied Science degree giving you the option to go into computer science, engineering or any other science field you plan to obtain a bachelor's degree in. I know this because its how I got my first bachelors degree in political science but instead of graduating i transferred to a 4 year.
I'm not going to argue when you have your facts wrong. Good luck with your schooling.

You're correct, but she didn't say her AAS was in nursing. It could be in something like Administrative Assistance or Dental Assisting. I think that's where the confusion is happening.

Is it just a general associates degree? I'm wondering why you did that first?
I had an ASN to start. It was an Associate's of Science in Nursing. I hate the term ADN as it doesn't appropriately say that it is a science degree as opposed to a liberal arts degree. I didn't have to get an AAS before getting my ASN.
Yes you are correct it doesn't. I did dual credit in high school and was on a pre-law track so I was advised to get my Associates in Applied Science so that if when I got to a four year school I changed my mind I could switch over easily if I wanted to. So that is what I did. In Texas it is very different depending on the school and program you attend. I have heard of ASN in other states and it does make it more clear. But here an ADN is the Associates Degree in Nursing and it is understood that it is science based because it means you went to Nursing school just like an ASN means in other states. It can be confusing I know lol but that is the Texas education system for you. I have a Bachelors in Political Science currently. My AAS wasn't a pre req for my Nursing Degree. I just decided to finally follow my dreams and pursue my passion and now I am going back to get my ADN/ASN.

That's the way it is here too. At least at the college I attended.
Yeah I feel you guys at times I wish it was an ASN here because it would be clear that it is science if I choose to go to another state but ADN is interpreted a lot of different ways and then most just don't know what it is.
