Well,I wanted to be an RN

Published

Hi everyone, I tried to go further to become an RN and failed. I still have my LPN and am trying to go get some experience. The only experience I have right now is being a medical assistant over 10 years ago with phlebotomy skills which has expired and some clinical experience while attending school. You don't know how bad I wanted to pass. Well, maybe you do. I believe now that if you go to school to further your education you have to have some experience under your belt. It's not just book knowledge. I believe I got burned out with school. Can you believe I've been going for six years and only got my LPN diploma. It makes me feel so imcompetent. How do people like yourself improve your memory. Mine just sucks anymore. Sorry bout that. I guess being 45 has its disadvantages. I'm also thinking the school teaching wasn't what it could have been. I think if I go back to school it will be at a different school.

i do not know the circumstances why it took you 6 years. but for me, i've been going to college for my rn since 2004, i've always worked full time and can only take some many credits due to not being able to coordinate or fit an extra class with my working schedule. i feel i should've been done along time ago, but i am happy that i haven't thrown the towel. i took a year off when i got pregnant, and now i've been back and made up my mind to get my bsn, so i've been taking bsn pre-reqs at my cc and this year me and my hubby have been working on paying the unecessary bills so when i go to my second semester of ns, he'll be able to handle the bills on his own. it looks like you have perseverance, do not give up, slowly but surely we will get there.

Hey, I've been in college off and on since January of 1971 and am finally close to my bachelor's.

What the heck, I always assumed I'd get one. SO it's 35 years later than I thought.

So you're an LPN and you haven't worked at all to get experience, is this right? Is your license still valid? It would help to have experience before going to school b/c you'll be able to understand and grasp what's being taught...I'm 43 and my memory's not as good as it was but it's far from being shot!!!! Stop making excuses, think positive and go for it!!! Good luck!!!:loveya:

It was five years total from the time I quit my old job and started on the journey to become a nurse, until I got my ADN. I'm chipping away slowly at my BSN. It'll probably be 2020 by the time I get it, LOL. There is only so much you can do in a day, a week, a year.....

Well, ya know what? I've decided to return to school in Jan. if the director of nursing has a spot for me. As long as financial aid is there, huh. I am an LPN already so they have the program set up to do a transition from being an LPN to an RN. I did this already one time and I got as far as having only having one semester left but I couldn't pass med surg III. I've got to get the electrolyes down and acidosis and alkalosis down. They say this is the key to getting through the program. We'll see.
