Well I did it!!!

I got changed over to the R.N. program at my school. I was currently enrolled in the LPN program and was almost finished and then decided to go and get my R.N. I am only 23 and I do not have any children yet! I figured I had better do it now!

I feel like it is so far off though and really it is only about a year away and I will be done. I guess I was afraid to make the next big step and get my R.N.

Any suggestions on how you made it thru? Was it tough? I am told you can't work a full time job at the same time because of all the studying that is necessary?

I always have enjoyed these boards. You get so much support from other nurses.

Heeeey! Congratulations! Take it one day at a time, don't be too hard on yourself...it's tough for almost everyone. Don't fall behind in your studies, take the time to make close friends and HAVE FUN! Don't be afraid to ask questions if you don't understand something. You can really make a fool of yourself in clinicals! (I once tried to teach a patient how to use an incentive spirometer......upside-down!) So you see, EVERYONE goofs at one point or another, laugh at yourself and move forward.

I worked through school along with having 2 small children so it can be done without sacrificing grades. (very difficult though)

I graduated in May, and I'm also 23...I'm glad I went now, before having children. I can't imagine what it would be like to have the added responsibility during scool!

I was not able to work full-time in school, d/t studying, projects, clinicals etc. I worked 2 8/hr shifts per week, and during my last semester I worked 1 day per week. I have major student loans now, but I have a license to show for it, hehehe.

Oh, I almost forgot. Don't get behind in the reading. If you don't undertand, ask. Don't pretend to know something you don't. Buy those Lippincott Review Series books to supplement studying (they go over the important things and give you practice questions.) The NCLEX review books are also good for extra reviewing for tests.

Good for you, and more power to you Peebles (?). I'll be 39 when I reach my RN. Going to school is no doubt more pleasant wihtout being a mom too. Plus, age really doesn't have all that much to do with it (your vocation), You know our hearts are timeless (even though I heard they athropy a little with each occuring beat:eek:

At my college you always see a percentage of the women on cell phones and they are all having the same conversation, it seems, based on what they are barking about over their phones. I always hear either "where are my kids now?" or "will you watch my kids." I tell ya, I love my parents more and more every day.

Perhaps their is an up-side to being my age. Maybe I should stop talking about my age

Congrats, again, on your desicion to go for your RN. Do you have your CNA yet?

Thank You so much for the support. I love nursing school. Yes, it is tuff, but like you said it will all pay off in the long run!

You will get through the year before you know it, they will keep you so busy, time will fly. It sounds to me you made the correct choice, welcome to nursing!!! The advice the other nurses have given you is great, it will help you a lot, the Lippincot books are worth every penny.
