Now to sit back for the next several weeks or more to find out...oye vay! =) Applied for April/May 2014 start dates for FNP, hoping I get into at least one of them =)....sigh

I was immediately put off by UC when I emailed the admissions counselor asking specific questions about their CNM program, and I got back a form email and have been getting spammed ever since. Yecchhh.

Tasha, just curious but I thought GU based the GPA on last 60hrs or the BSN rather than cummulative. Was that not your experience?

Sorry. I thought GU said admission reqs was for the BSN or last 60 hours as opposed to cummulative GPA. Was that not your experience?

Thanks.

Tasha, I don't know if am obsessed with Georgetown, if taking graduate courses is what it will take for me to get into Georgetown, am ready to take them. My application is in, they are waiting for one recommendation later. Tasha, did they send your a survey to complete regarding your experience with the application process? I live near GU so I think getting into Georgetown will be a great advantage. University of georgetown medical center is our sister hospital.

No Gu does a full cumulative GPA based on ALL courses ever taken for college (and they even included my gpa courses from LPN school where a B was considered 90%), and it has to be well above 3.0 to even get in (even though that;s the minimum) I was told there were over 600 applicants already for May 2014, and it's very very very competitive to get in. I was told that everything else I had as far as sciences, letters of recommendation, my personal statement was all highly regarded, but my overall GPA was not good enough, even at a 3.0 I would still have been denied more than likely due to how high the average GPA was for this applicant pool.

I was obsessed with GU as well, and really wanted in, but it's okay. Its almost 80K and Simmons offers the EXACT SAME program for $57K total. I have about 2.5 wks left to find out from Simmons. I did not want to take courses over the next 6mo, then try to reapply to GU with yet another chance at being denied again should the applicant pool be even more competitive, it's just not a risk i'm willing to take, when I need to finish this degree and utilize my GI bill ASAP before time runs out on it.

In all honesty for me, Simmons has been a God-send and have been the most enjoyable to work with during the application process so far. I have also talked to several people who applied, but Simmons offered them a provisional acceptance and enrolled them in classes to take the term before, and if passed with 80 or above, they know they have a seat. They did not have to "re-apply" just because they needed an extra class or whatever. To me that shows great support to their students and potential students. Plus simmons has a 100% pass rate for their on-campus program the past five years, which is even better than GU, and because they use the same technology company and online platform to take classes it's the same 18mo program etc. Now if I do not get into Simmons i will probably be totally crushed =) however, I have great hopes that it won't be an issue and I'll be getting my acceptance email soon!

I still have university of Cincinnati as a back up as well, although I'm not too happy with them at this point with their communication.

Nope a full cumulative is looked at first (which they calculated at like a 2.99), then Sciences GPA (mine was 3.5 or 3.6), then BSN gpa (mine was 3.8)...even if you put all three GPA's together including the 2.99 I should have been around a 3.43 at minimum...still no go for me though.

Tasha, you make good points about taking graduate courses with no guarantee. I want to apply to Simmons but I don't think I have enough time. I think their January start deadline is soon.

Priority deadline for January is Nov 18th, Final app deadline for Jan is Nov 27th so you still have some time for January cohort =)

I used all my same stuff from GU to apply, the application online is IDENTICAL (except for the video as no video is needed for Simmons) so it took me all of an hour to get it done, and i also used the same recommendors and told them I was using them again, they understood. I did this while my GU app was still pending and I'm glad I did. I do know if you are denied admission to GU they are able to pull your recommendations over without having to make you get new ones, including your transcripts as well. You are able to change your personal statement though...

Tasha, are the recommenders able to email the school directly? I read that Simmons wants recommendation letters with original signature.

I'm not sure to tell you the truth, they pulled my recommendations from my denied GU app

How do they do that? Do I have to be denied before they can pull? Maybe I should call them. If that's the case, I will apply tonight. I really want an 18month program online so that I can keep up with the kids.
