3 weeks on first job and checks are not available on payday

Published

This is my third week on my first job as an LPN. I am working for a privately owned LTC and I actually love the work. My very first day was 'brightened' by DHEC. After three days of survey, I was put on the med cart and have been working alone with as many as 44 residents at times. Here's the problem... That first week was pay week. Several tried to cash their checks on payday and were told they were no good. Today is yet again payday. I made two trips, as instructed, to pick up my check and finally was told they will not be ready until tomorrow morning. I really don't know what I need to do at this point. Instability is obvious to me and my job search has been on-going. I do not want to do anything that will jeopardize my license, but do not feel that after two years of school I can work for free! Any suggestions???

call the labor board for your state and find a new job...

Thanks, Sun...my thoughts exactly!!!

That stinks to say the least. Especially when you love a job. I would go to your supervisor and put it out there. "I really love working here, but can no longer work without getting a paycheck, therefore, I am giving my notice". Definetely give notice, as when you are job searching, that you quit outright combined with just starting a new job, puts you in a tough spot. When you are searching for a new job, I would be clear that you loved the work, that you know how to do xyz, but that the company you worked for was "apparently dealing with financial difficulties which affected your ability to be paid in a timely manner". Then call the Labor Board. Make sure you put your reason for leaving on your new applications as noted above. Let us know how it goes.

Contact the labor board ASAP. You don't have to work for free. This facility thought they had problems before, they are in a heap of trouble now:nono:
