Good morning!
Joe, hope you hear from CarMax and can get that out of the way and enjoy your new car.
The city here will pick up stuff. I've used them a couple of times and you just have to leave the stuff outside and schedule a pick up day. Once I left a lot of old pictures, junk, and two non-working lawn mowers. Someone picked up the pictures and another man took the lawn mowers prior to the city picking up the rest. Usually when people leave stuff outside it's understood people can take it. I got a small bookshelf that way.
The exhibit at the museum was good. The theme was "The Art of Nature" and had some themes as to how nature was used in art, such as tortise shells, elephant ivory, coral and other themes like paintings with water. In talking about the art, the placards acknowledged how decimated the animals and coral were.
Today had my 6th month dental cleaning. A new hygienist again but it sounds like she's permanent and I liked her. My co-pay was $50 which I find annoying because back in the day there was no co-pay. I used my Health Savings Account, but still annoyed.
It's chilly here at only 60 and will stay in the 60's. Heat is cranking.
Both Tuscan bean soup and cream of celery soup sound good. My crowd seems to think they haven't had a meal if they have soup but add a sandwich and they tolerate it. I'm thinking soups would make good lunches for me as I once again try to improve my habits. The last few days my lunches have been mini-fritattas that Twin B and I made the other day. They are tasty and satisfying though I find myself wanting something mid-afternoon. I can't shake the desire for something sweet with my morning coffee. Will have to try to find reasonable sweet things.
Our internet isn't working and I need it for most of the things I could be doing right now so I am taking a little break.
I need to search AN. I'm almost sure there's a group to share recipes.
Joe, I hope you can get the car business settled soon. It hasn't been a speedy process but if you get what you want for a good price it wil be worth it.
Hello!
Joe, fingers crossed that you will hear from CarMax today! Hope work is without drama.
Tweety, sounds like an interesting exhibit. It's good they did draw attention to depeleted natural resources.
Our temps are lower too, in the high 60's. Nights in the 40's. It's a nice break from Summer.
Dh is on the phone with our insurance agent re: adaptive cruise control and body damage repair. She knows her stuff, and is very helpful. It's a labyrinth, though -- most of it done online and digitally these days. He and I both shook our heads, when HE took photos of the damage and submitted them -- and had to submit via Chrome, which he doesn't use on his phone, so he had to download it and say OK to all the permissions, and then after the photos were sent, he removed the app. Anyway, we just don't know how ppl function, who don't use computers and smart phones -- and we KNOW there are a lot of ppl who don't!
I don't have much planned today. Hope you all have a good day!
Hello Ado! Dh and I have settled into a routine of no breakfast (I will usually have fruit), a heavier meal at lunch, and something lighter in the evening -- and soup fills the bill. I made BLTs for us last night (I had mine sans bread), and we will have the soup tonight. I feel more like cooking since the days have cooled off. On hot Summer days, I DON'T feel like cooking!
I turned out my light last night at 1:04 AM, so I am proud of myself for putting the book down and going to sleep! I still slept until 11 AM today anyway, but that's okay; I was up a few times last night, but not for too long. I am having coffee and Nannie has finished her pills'n'yogurt, Momo has eaten her breakfast and has done her business. The day has begun!
It's a sunny, windy, 48 degree day. Many dried, dead leaves are blowing over toward the woods like I was daydreaming they would yesterday. But, of course not ALL the leaves will wind up over there, but I was thinking it would be helpful if they did.
Our good neighbor who is selling hubby's collections of guns and ammo just brought me $650 from what he's sold so far! We loaded some more things into his car, because yesterday I found some more things in the right half of the closet; I still have to go through the left half of the closet, so who knows what will be revealed there!
Amazingly enough, Nannie's sheets and blankets were not wet this morning! The under-pad was drenched, which transferred to the clothes she had put on at some point last night or this morning...so, of course there is her laundry to do, but at least I don't have to remake the bed with washed and dried bedclothes today!
Momo has an appt with the vet on Friday. The receptionist (who has been there FOREVER) told me that Momo will have to be spayed even though she is 7 years old; apparently there are problems that unspayed females can get, like tumors, cancer, and something that starts with the letter "p", which is when gunk collects and stays attached to the inside of the uterus, that can start a terrible bacterial infection. Anyway, I looked it up on line. It will involve (for her) a stay at the animal hospital because she isn't supposed to jump and run around for several days after surgery, and she will have to wear the 'cone of shame' so she doesn't pull out the stitches, I really hate to put her through all that, but it's gotta be done, I guess. And with all the stairs here, and how excited she gets about meal-time, jumping on and off the sofa and twirling in circles, she will have to stay there. I don't have a crate here, and I will be terribly stressed if SHE is terribly stressed by having to be confined. I hope they can keep her there for those few days afterwards, anyway. Poor li'l thing!
Nannie's laundry is on spin. I'll have to go upstairs and get my laundry to be done. AND there are, as usual, 2-3 meals/days worth of dirty dishes in the sink, so I'll have to do them. I have already started emptying the trash and wastebaskets.....again! Every day I wonder how in the world just two people and a dog can produce so much trash! Of course, Nannie and Momo contribute all their used under-pads every day, and Nannie's bathroom wastebasket isn't very big so it has to be emptied every day. Ah, me. Being a house-wife, a janitor, and laundress (etc) can't go on forever, one would hope. At least I don't have to be a Supply Sgt today!
I didn't make spaghetti and meatballs yesterday like I had planned, so I may do so today. Don't have a baguette to do the garlic bread, but maybe I can substitute something; I do have some of those croissants-in-a-tube (Pillsbury?) I could shake some garlic powder on before I stick 'em in the oven. No big deal.
Enough with the chatting, and on to the next load of (my) laundry.....
Dianah, I don't bat an eye, but now that you mention it so many things nowadays are technology. When I made reservations for parking at the airport you get in by scanning a QR code from your phone. It's very convenient but wonder what those that don't do technology do? Same with some tickets I purchased to a light show this weekend. The tickets and parking are a QR code. No printable tickets. Plus they advertise they are a cashless event as there are vendors and food there.
My car insurance has an app that you use on your phone to make claims. It's convenient because you can take pictures on your phone and download them on your claim.
Soup is not a meal. I added some farro to the Tuscan bean soup and another side. I do tend to reduce the amount of liquid and eat more than one serving at a time.
Stars you inspired me to make spaghetti tonight. I'm going to use Impossible vegan ground beef since I have some frozen from when they were buy-one-get-one at the grocery store. In dishes like this I can't tell the difference between it and the real thing.
Stars, that's awesome that guy sold those guns for you. Poor Momo having to go through that. Both of my girls were spayed as a requirement of their being in the rescue I got them from. Ellie my first girl had just weaned a litter that I don't think was her first.
My late Billy hated being in a cage. I picked him up once from a dental cleaning and his paw was bloody they said from him panicking in the cage and scratching to get out.
Ha-ha! The jokes on me!
#1.) I forgot to thaw the ground sirloin.
#2.) the garlic powder and garlic salt that looked full, WERE full, BUT...I tried to shake the bottles to loosen it up, and they were rock solid.
#3.) Not worth breaking up the garlic powder/salt, because when I looked on the jars, both had a use-by date of 2012! I'm not sure how such old garlic would taste, so I pitched them and put them on my shopping list. Just goes to show you how OFTEN Nannie used either Garlic salt or garlic powder! Like, maybe never?
So supper was plan B for Nannie (one of the Healthy Choice frozen 'bowl'-meals). And for me, I'll have leftover nibbles from the fridge, and an apple.
Hi. Brrr. Another cold day, I'm not sure if the temp got up to 40. We got a call this morning from MiL's life Alert company, saying she'd pressed her button, told them she was she short of breath and they called 911. That makes sense, except she lives with her daughter, and that daughter and another one are first on the list to be called. But they weren't called. And they didn't call dh, he is #3. Anyway, she got transported, dx with pneumonia, and is now admitted. We went in to see her briefly. Her breathing was fair, except it was at 30 breaths. Her main concern was she was very tired. I adjusted the head of the stretcher for her, and smoothed out all the bunched up linens and lift sheets under her. We are down to one car, so I left dh at the hospital for a while, so I could make my appointment to pick up my new lenses. But one is too big, so they will send back, and I'll have to come back again. I've never had this many issues with a pair of glasses. After the hospital I took dh home and went to the demo gardens to help spread 20 yards of compost. I am going to be sore tomorrow !
I've had cream of celery soup from the can, in the past. But yeah, at my house, soup is not a meal as far as the menfolk are concerned. A big chunk of meat or fish defines a meal. Ugh. Dh will not eat tofu, quinoa, and most beans. Sigh.
Stars, I've been finding old stuff squirreled away, too. We have at least 5 jars of garlic salt/powder, and probably 3 of onion salt/powder. Im not really sure where it all came from.
Joe, I've sensed that you pressure yourself to get everything possible every day. I don't know your work flow, but I think it's good to let last minute things wait a day, when possible. I hope your car is ready soon!
Tweety, that does sound like an interesting exhibit. I like to watch the Antiques Roadshow, and they will talk about how certain materials can't be bought or sold.
Annie, I know the feeling about craving sweet in the am, but I know I feel physically better with my avocado toast, and its filling. Just sayin'.
We've been shutting our two dogs in the bathroom when we both leave, and they've been tolerating it okay. I have 2 Kong balls I stuff with peanut butter and kibble to occupy them.
Another weird thing about the Life Alert, they left a message asking me to call back, which I did. But who ever answered the phone had no idea why I was called, or who I was, and had no record of me being called.

Tweety I think I have made a Tuscan bean soup before too
NJ22 hope the ceiling fan arrives in time
Stars a lot of municipalities have programs to pick up more hazardous type stuff that can't be recycled
Ado glad your sister is home from the hospital
Dianah don't think I've heard of cream of celery soup
Work was quite slow most of the day despite the meeting, but by the end of the day the documents began to arrive and then I had to try and troubleshoot an issue with our pharmacy system, so I ended up leaving a half hour late. Got a new case too but saved that for today
Talked to dad, who has some sort of cold or sinus infection, thankfully it doesn't seem to be flu or Covid. He's going to follow up with his provider to see if he needs to come in or not
The rest of the day was pretty quiet, stayed home and exercise and worked on Christmas cards and online Christmas shopping
Today should be a better day at work, barring anything unexpected. Hope to hear from CarMax today, if not I'll have to call them again. Have grocery shopping after work
Going to be warmer today, should get up to 40
