Hello all!
I just caught up on yesterday's posts. Wow, Ado, that is HOT! What was the humidity??? (we love our A/C!!) Enjoy Vermont! (makes me think of that old jazz standard, "Moonlight In Vermont") I am very task-oriented, too. Which is why me and Cath Lab were a good fit. ?
No Stars, how was last night's game? I do feel for ya, dealing with your dh's denial and with Nannie. ?
nursej22, hope your daughter can get the help she needs, whether it comes from EAP or a private source. We only see what we see. She is right in the thick of it. ? I dislike spending most of the day on the phone, too.
We had a wonderful day yesterday! Drove out to enjoy food with our bassist, then drove up to the campground to visit a different set of friends. Only one site was occupied, but they had set up a table and a jamming area (chairs in a circle), and a separate area nearby for the "grinners." We had a great time jamming, then they set up a table with potluck food (we hadn't brought anything, assumed we'd miss the potluck when we'd arrived around 2pm, but that did NOT happen!) and had a late lunch. Then jammed some more! The weather was 80 degrees, surrounded by huge pine trees, with a nice breeze to keep us comfortable.
One of the ladies (a little older than us) - a fiddler - had just been released from the hospital some three weeks ago, after a bout with pneumonia and pleurisy. She is still taking prednisone, and is slowly gathering her strength after being sick. This outing turned out to be very tiring for her, but she soldiered on, and went straight to bed when she got home.
There were multiple discussions about body parts not doing well: potential hip and knee replacements being foremost. Yah, that's what happens (besides the music!) when a group of us get together! All in all, it was a good day. We left around 7, and it was VERY nice to settle in for some down time at home!
Today I need to go to the grocery store.
Have a good day!
dianah, nice photos, and nice to think about the 80 degree temps, instead of having Ado's 115-116 degrees. We are still in the ^90's. Yesterday afternoon we had a brief thunderstorm AND some RAIN!! At least there is a good breeze today.
Well, this morning I changed all hubby's bandages to the clear Tegaderm. He wanted to try a Capsaicin patch; and after I put one over his right rib-cage, he says it does help ease his side. He has been trying different OTC pain meds, but you can tell his ribs on the right side are giving him a fit, especially when he sneezes or has to cough. He is shaking and his muscles are jumping. I asked him if he needed to take a SMALL drink, like, is it the DT's, or the pain that is making him like that? I mean, he REALLY took a HARD fall yesterday.
He called the doc's office and the nurse said the doc probably wouldn't see him until tomorrow morning. If I have to drag him out of bed and take him over there first thing, he IS going to see him! I asked if he could lay down and get eased off, but he said not in his bed (his mattress is so soft it is downright soggy....no support at all.) Anyway, for now he is heading out to his office (Ford) with an ice pack for his left hand. I don't care if he has to tipple, as long as he doesn't do too much, but y'know, y'never know.
I don't know who won the All Stars game last night, but I think it wasn't the National League (aka "us".) Right around the start of the 8th inning, we were all so tired we decided to go to bed.
I have to go make a sandwich for Nannie's lunch. I am going to try to take it easy today, and to heck with cleaning, vac-ing or laundry, or anything else, if I can help it. Maybe I'll take a shower, a good head scrubbing will feel good, because I sweated so much yesterday that the back of my scalp is ITCHY!
TA!
Joe, come to think of it, yesterday may have been the hottest temp I've experienced. I know it was about 113 when we were in Las Vegas many years ago (and so dry. I was OK as long as I carried around a big cup of water to drink). And we've been miserable in Orlando but I think it was the humidity that made it so uncomfortable and the temp was "only" in the 90s). My first Summer back in Oklahoma (2011) I think we had a day that was about 112-113. Too hot! Today it is still about 105 but it is overcast and those clouds look like rain could happen. That bank sign I took a picture of is just south of the hospital. That's the highest reading I've seen on it. The lowest was -11 a couple of years ago on a night shift. Back in Indiana, I've experienced -27.
I ran errands at lunchtime. Put gas in the truck, stopped at the pharmacy but then realized that I was there during the hour they close for lunch. I have books waiting at the library that I requested and thought I'd go pick them up but realized that I have NO idea where my library card is. I haven't used it in a long time since I've been borrowing e-books using the online app. I had to have had my card when I set up my account in that app. They'd probably give me a new one, but then my held books would be under a different account ... I will see if I can locate my card when I get home.
Ah, heck and all those other words like Rats! Phooey! Etc.
Guess I wasted money on the Tegaderm. Who knew it wouldn't stick to hubby's skin for long without lifting at the edges and rolling up. Back to the old fashioned materials.
We are experiencing thunder, I mean THUNDER! Hoping it will deliver some good rain to squeeze the humidity out of the air.
Hubby said the nurse at the doc's office said she would call him about an early AM appointment tomorrow. It is well after office hours, so it's highly probable she won't call tonight. And he said he won't go stand at the doc's office door and tell them that's what the doc told him to do if he couldn't get through by phone.
Did I already say he is acting just like his MOTHER????
Good morning!
J22, hope your daughter is okay.
Nice pics Di.
Our temps are quite typical around 90, but always humid. The hottest I've been is during a heatwave in Atlanta when it was 105. Coldest was about 18. I'd rather be hot than cold. Being cold is painful. I remember being in Greece and not being able to get warm after it rained and I was miserable. I was in horrendous heat in Cambodia during their "hot season" and did better. Mind you it was hot, but not miserably painful.
Work was okay. Started with a 4:1 ratio, got two admissions and discharged two. I am oriented an LPN that just got her RN and it's her first hospital job. No one told me, but I don't mind. It does slow me down. She's pretty sharp though.
The big news is we did our first bariatric surgery. I'll probably have him tomorrow. It's totally new tome.
I was in Phoenix once and the high was 111 one day. I think it got to 108 here last year? And our humidity averages around 50%. Today was quite pleasant: about 78 for a high. My run in the morning was quite sticky. Sort of a lazy day, cleaned up the kitchen, did a little weeding and then to work for 2 hours. Dh is working late, so I picked up a tostada salad for dinner. My crazy job share has finally announced her last day: Aug 12. She did give some tips about getting ready to retire and who to contact in HR. I am still looking at November, but thinking I may have to go into December for insurance purposes.
Dianah, thank you for the pictures. I can almost smell the pine needles.
I'm not sure where my library card is either. Hmm. It seems like they ought to be able to generate a new one.
I hope Mr. No Stars gets into to see doc in the morning. It wouldn't surprise me it there is a fx rib, but it seems that it ought to be x-rayed to check for a pneumothorax or hemothorax. A long time ago I had a very confused pt who fell in the hospital. Dr. didn't do any imaging and the lady deteriorated over several days. They finally did a chest X-ray, and she had a lung full of blood. Of course, the Dr. threw me under the bus. I had to talk to risk management and she said based on my charting I did everything possible.
I wonder if the x-ray machine at our doc's office is even working now? It's been 'down' for a while. I think hubby also needs his left hand x-ray, to see if there's a broken bone in the little finger; The top of his hand is very puffy, as are 2-3 fingers. I'm glad I made him take off his rings. His sorest ribs are on the right side, which, at least isn't the side of his previous lung problems.
Stars, something like pain after a fall whether it be in the finger or ribs is something that can be handled by urgent care rather than the doctors office. I understand your doctor understands his history but if you concerns of fractures I would go to urgent care. But if your concern is his drinking and detox then going back to the doc is what you should do.
Good luck.

Was a better day yesterday, slower at work and had time to help others. Decided for a change to order Chinese. Otherwise a fairly quiet day
Hoping today will be quiet as well. Have a get together tonight for the church vestry, hoping it won't be too hot
J should be back from Pittsburgh, we'll talk later tonight. Need to discuss visiting my aunt if we're going to do that this fall
Still fairly warm here in the upper 80s
