Weatherford College Spring 2015

Published

Hi just wanted to start new thread of anyone applying for the ADN May-July for admission into spring 2015 at Weathford College Main Campus. Lets support each other and help each other with any questions or concerns. How many points are y'all applying with? Does anyone know how many students they accept? When will we notified of acceptance or rejection?

Yes! It's changing a lot! The focus is moving primarily to the TEAS (it'll be something like: score 83-86 on your composite score and get 8 points, 87-89 you get 11 points , and 90-95 is 15 points). That's an example. There's a few other things (like pre-reqs and co-reqs still being worth a few points and BSN classes still being worth points) that are the same, but, yeh. Things are changing.

And I, for one, had a rough time with the TEAS (I passed both times, but my scores weren't anywhere near what I'm used to making on tests) -which is part of the reason why I'm hoping to get in this coming spring.

Yikes! Hopefully I will get in this time too....I agree I was VERY disappointed with my TEAS scores the first time... (I mean they were pretty much on the national averages but much lower numbers that I am used to seeing) the second time I took it I ended up doing much better but still not whefe i WANTED to be. it's definitely not an EASY test by any means.

I guess by moving toward a more heavily weighted TEAS it makes it more competitive. I mean anyone can complete all of the pre reqs and bsn courses but it's a lot harder to score well on the TEAS. I just pray I don't have to reapply because THAT would be nerve wracking if my application pretty much depended upon that test.

Lovely... I appreciate the info. I plan to apply this Dec-Feb application period. Where did you get this information about the changes? I have looked at the WCC website and there is nothing new or different listed under the selection criteria.

I'm pretty sure this nutrition class is being to be the bane of my existence this semester.... at the moment it is feeling like a "teach yourself" class :-/

Anyone else have a class that they feel like could make you lose your mind this semester? Lol

KL emailed me the info after I asked her advice last semester on ways to increase my chances in the future; she told me to take Micro and and Art Appreciation over the summer, gave me some feedback on my transcript, and sent me the changes as sort of an FYI. Like I said in a previous post, she may come off short sometimes, but she's really kind and helpful (at least when she's not busy LOL!). As far as being posted online, I imagine they wouldn't be posted on the website yet because no one can apply for those slots yet. However, if it's any consolation, I was sent an "official flyer" so it's not a secret or anything. Also, possibly worthy of note, I hear through the grapevine that KL could be leaving WC soon; I heard she has a pretty excellent opportunity in the education dept at JPS. But, the latter is just hearsay I can't confirm.

@JLT5 If PM is an option on AllNurses (I've never done it before), you can PM me your email, and I'll forward the flyer. Best of luck to you!! As with all things: when there's a will, there's a way -you can do it!!

@Tsouthern: I completely agree with your remarks! Actually, I was kind of upset last semester because I knew of two classmates who had several more classes than I did -but whose grades were worse- and had more points; honestly, I even complained and was like, look I'm a 4.0 student, and some of these students have more points because of class volume... so, I guess I understand the changes, but now that I'm finishing up all the BSN pre-reqs, I'm like: Don't change it yet, I take back my complaints!! Haha!

As far as this semester: I'm loving Nutrition so far! We watched the movie Forks Over Knives to get us into the class, and he said a large chunk of our grade is going to be participation-based; he said on the first day, "I believe a discussion-based model is the format where students take the most away. If you don't participate, you probably won't come out of here with an A." We're actually going to have some of his dietitians friends from the hospital come in a few weeks and talk about how they tailor diets for patients with certain diseases/disorders and why, and another day we're going to discuss how nutrition can actually cure/aide issues like depression and anxiety (because of the neurotransmitters certain foods -like citrus- affect). In fact, after watching the documentary, our discussion was about the implications and connections of cancer and the Western Diet. Granted, he says we'll probably spend a whole class on just diabetes, but I think the other material is enough to get us interested; I have a really good feeling about this professor/class. Hopefully yours gets better -it seems like a class with real potential! And a lot of people really enjoy the professor you have, so hopefully it's not too bad.

Now, that said, I'm also taking humanities this semester, and that's kicking my butt!! I was complaining a little while back that I had no time to read for pleasure anymore, so I figured taking a literature class would fix that... and then, my first assignment was to read this long (and somewhat boring) story in Old English!! Professor is amazing, but I was like: This is NOT quite what I had in mind! LMAO!

I have a feeling that receiving a packet/letter in the mail will re-motivate me/us though!!

I am new to allnurses as an "actual user", so I am not sure how to send a message, but I could add you as a friend? It said something about me not having enough postings to be able to message yet? I was just going to post my email here and then delete it but I am not sure how to delete a post either! However, I really REALLY appreciate the information and help. I did speak with KL a couple of times on the phone before this last application period and she was extremely nice and helpful. I also sent her an email in regards to these changes but have not heard back just yet and I imagine that she is crazy busy right now. It would be great to know what things I could be doing now to increase my chances. I can understand the frustration of having a high GPA, but not as many "points" because of general electives, etc. I have had to just continually add those extra courses in so that I can have a fighting chance when it comes to the point system. I have attended school in the past but unfortunately through schools where my previous course work would not transfer over, so I started completely fresh in my quest to become a RN. :) Again, I greatly appreciate your help! Good luck to you all!

WhiffOfGas: Here is an old email.... I just hope that I can remember the password! It is just full of spam anyways so I don't mind putting it on this post. If you wouldn't mind sending it here I would be extremely grateful! Thank you again! [email protected]

lol I totally see the reasoning behind the changes.....I just hope it doesn't happen until I'm in lol cus I have worked my behind off completing all of the BSN classes. I agree KL is very helpful when I email her asking what I could do to have a more competitive application, she emailed me back with a detailed outline of the new points and confirmed that the plan I had was a good choice. She gets tons of phone calls and emails about applications wanting to know when and how many etc....sooo she'd be wasting a ton of time trying to answer all of it.

as for nutrition my prof gets soooooooo distracted we spend the majority of the class listening to him tell stories and jokes......it took us TWO AND A HALF class periods to get the a slide show for chapter 1 (which isn't even really any REAL in depth info)......(and he just kept saying well we aren't really going to talk about that.....). Everyone I know who took this class in the past said if he asks if you want a take home test say NO WAY....they are brutal....so much harder than just studying and taking an exam.....sooo today he asked if we wanted our first exam to be a take home test....and there were only two of us who said no...soo Im sure we will get one...I'm kinda dreading that hahaha.

My other issue is he doesn't have a set schedule for exams....he just says when we get through the info we'll vote and decide if we are ready for an exam....we ask what will be on the exam and he says don't worry about it....nutrition is a fun class.....lol everyone I know who has taken nutrition with him says don't believe him....it's not fun hahahaha.....I need more structure for my sanity.....all of this "don't worry....we'll vote about it" and not really telling us what to expect on the exams is stressing me out hahahah. Don't get me wrong...he is smart....he knows what he is talking about...he is just the complete opposite of what I am used to and I don't like it hahaha on the plus side he does offer a million "challenges" that are extra credit. Give up all added sugar for a week and keep track of what you eat and your weight and how you feel....get extra credit.....get the class together to do a collection for a local food bank you can get extra credit......turn in a paper with your goals (like if you want to lose weight....gain weight....change eating habits etc) and keep track of it through the semester....if you meet your goal it's extra credit....maybe I can earn an A just from doing all of this extra credit ;)

I'm jealous of your class....it sounds AMAZING...I wanted to love this class.....but disorganization and no schedule kills me hahah

Anybody heard anything new?
