Wearing long-sleeved shirts under scrubs

Published

In most nursing homes can you still wear long-sleeved t-shirts under scrubs? Or a sweater? I have tatoos I have to cover.

Thanks,

Wendy

In the LTC's I've been in lately for clinicals, I have not seen anyone with a long sleeved shirt under a scrub top, although I've seen all of the nurses, CNA's, and other staff that wore scrub tops w/a sweater/jacket/lab coat on if it was cooler on the floor d/t the air conditioning running at subartic temps. Then again, I've been in clinicals during the warmer months. Maybe in the cooler/colder months they'll put a long sleeved shirt on.

That's not to say long sleeved shirts under a scrub top are not allowed.

You didn't say if your in clinicals... the dress codes during school are pretty strict. They'll tell you in advance. Generally facilities vary as to whats allowed. I work in a hospital and I wear one or a nursing jacket year round as many of our nurses are "hot flashing" and it's sub zero freezing, minus the snow every day:lol2:

I see it all the time in LTC. Of course, I'm in a perpetual hot flash so I never wear one.

As someone above pointed out, clinicals are a different story.

As for me, regardless of if am in a hospital or LTC facility, I always wear a long sleeved shirt under my scrubs. I am perpetually cold even in the summer coz of AC and would rather have something to take off than be cold.

Good Luck!

When I worked in a nursing home we all wore long sleeved shirts under our scrubs. I usually end up taking mine off after an hour, they keep nursing homes like 80 degrees!

I've never hear of that being banned. I think it depends on if you get easily cold or not.

Thanks everyone for responding. No, this is not for clinicals just general work.

I thought people wore longsleeves to have less of their skin exposed to the "joys" of healthcare work ;-) I would, except I am always hot. Darn Florida weather ;-)
