We regret to Inform You (LETTER)

So yesturday I received my letter from school, after applying to the Rn program for fall08. As you may have guessed my the title, I did not get in the program. They do not give specifics, but I do know that my school is working out the waiting list, and doing away with it. So there is not telling how many seats were actually open and they wouldn't give us an exact number. I do know that over 225 people applied to the program which accepts 130. So I realize it is hard to do. I have a 3.78 GPA, scored 69% on the NET and I have all my pre and co-reqs completed. My counselors believe I have an excellent chance in getting in the program, based on my grades. I have four other friends who applied, no one got accepted. One was applying to the bridge program, and they rejected her with a 4.0. They only person I know to get in, is a girl who applied in to the LPN program. I knew before I applied that getting in is hard and that is why I studied so hard, but it really sucked to get that letter in the mail. I am sure I am not the only one who feels this way.

Feel free to add to this if you too, have been denied a seat in the fall classes!

I'm just dropping in to give some support!! I'm sorry that happened...your GPA sounds awesome. I'm in an Accelerated BSN program right now...but I remember all too well waiting for my letter to come in the mail and the stress it creates...(that was only a couple months ago actually)...I wish you the best of luck on getting in. Don't give up!

Yeah, jus keep your head up mbwantstobanrn, just keep pluging along and you'll get in eventually, you'll see. I wish you all the luck.

Hey friendlyghost87, I too am finishing up my prerequisites and hoping to get into an accelerated program this time next year. What school are you doing yours at right now? How many schools did you apply to? How many turned you down? I'm just trying to get an estimate on how many schools I should apply to. I'm in Texas and plan to apply to 5 schools in Texas that have the accelerated program.

I know exactly how horrible it is to get that rejection letter. I too was pretty hopeful, allowing myself to be lulled, by my instructors' and advisor's comments and my GPA of 4. 0, into a false sense of security, but I got a rejection letter too. The only one of the 10 or so students I knew who had applied and actually got in had a high GPA too (about 3. 7), and she had completed over 60 credits at the school! As they add up credits/grades to arrive at a figure, I can totally see why she made it (and am glad for her). It's horrible, though, and a bit worrying. You think "what ELSE can I do?" when there is nowhere else to take your GPA. I wasn't too happy with the generic letter that said my grades were good and "showed potential." I'd love to know what that potential is--a 4.0 is the highest our school has. :scrm: What made it harder for me to take was just 2 days before "the" letter (so I was expecting it and practically mugging the mail man every day) I got one from the college that started with "Congratulations!....." Turns out they were inviting me to join the honors society. A couple of days AFTER the rejection letter, I got another "Congrats" one, inviting me to join Phi Theta Kapa. I couldn't even be happy about that because of the timing (although I did join).

Sigh. I was working on my last co-req, although I had all my pre-reqs. By the time I apply again next year I will have a few more credits under my belt. If I don't get in then I just don't know what I'll do. I'm 50 now--don't have too many more years to mess around waiting. Our school typically has 600 to 700 applicants for about 120 places, so the odds are NOT good.

I would allow yourself a few days to stew and feel sad (I did) then see what else you can do in the meantime to both improve your chances next year and keep involved in the field. I was going to do a phlebotomy course, but it filled up SO fast I was out of luck. Instead I opted for the EMT-B courses the school offers in the fall. I still hate that I didn't get in, but I'm really looking forward to those classes and trying to "keep my chin up." I wish you the same. :icon_hug:

I'm at University of Missouri-St. Louis. It's the only school I applied to, and I applied to their accelerated program as well as the traditional 2 year route....but I got in to the accelerated long before they even sent out letters for the traditional...so I just accepted my spot in the program. Good luck with everything....sorry I don't know much about Texas!!! Keep in touch and let me know how things go!!! :)

At my school, they only allow you to apply to one program. Therefore you can either apply to the RN program days, or RN Program nights or you can apply to the LPN program.

They really tie your hands behind your back!

I completely understand. I aced all of my prereqs and my first rejection letter was a heart breaker. I sobbed all night. It was not pretty. I've basically been applying to the same program (upper division of university) for two years before I actually got accepted (this past April!).

I know it's hard, working your butt off only to get rejected. But I kept trying, all the while finishing up another degree (biomedical science). So it's not like I wasted those two years applying to school.

So hang in there, keep trying. It may take a while (believe me, I know :)). But if there's a will, there's a way.

Best of luck to you :)!

I was going to do that, but what happens if I score lower? I am not sure if they will keep my old scores. I did alright I suppose, but the adivors told me not to take the net until after college algebra, but they were so wrong, because all of the stuff was from intermediate algebra. At my school they require a 50% pass rate on every section and then on your over all score. Maybe I will try that, I have til September, so once I get this summer course out of the way I can concentrate on that! Thanks

Wow, you're right...they do tie your hands behind your back...that seems unfair!! It's a shame they can't open up more options for you to apply to. Is there any way you can look at other schools nearby...or is that the only option close enough? Either way...I sure hope it works out in the end. Seriously...don't give up!!! Keep your head up. It WILL happen! :)

I also received the "regret to inform you..." letter from DBC. I contacted Melissa Brown and she wrote: "We did not have any seats available for the August 08 class, and their should be approximately 120 seats available for applicants that apply in September for January 09."

So, no seats again this semester and "approximately" 120 seats for January.

Good luck applying in Sept.

I'm not sure about the school you're applying to, but one of the 11 I'm applying to requires an 85 on the NET to even be considered for admission--so you might look into taking another math course, a test prep course, etc. Good luck!
