We regret to Inform You (LETTER)

Published

So yesturday I received my letter from school, after applying to the Rn program for fall08. As you may have guessed my the title, I did not get in the program. They do not give specifics, but I do know that my school is working out the waiting list, and doing away with it. So there is not telling how many seats were actually open and they wouldn't give us an exact number. I do know that over 225 people applied to the program which accepts 130. So I realize it is hard to do. I have a 3.78 GPA, scored 69% on the NET and I have all my pre and co-reqs completed. My counselors believe I have an excellent chance in getting in the program, based on my grades. I have four other friends who applied, no one got accepted. One was applying to the bridge program, and they rejected her with a 4.0. They only person I know to get in, is a girl who applied in to the LPN program. I knew before I applied that getting in is hard and that is why I studied so hard, but it really sucked to get that letter in the mail. I am sure I am not the only one who feels this way.

Feel free to add to this if you too, have been denied a seat in the fall classes!

I also wrote Melissa and she told me the same exact thing. What is your GPA? And how did you do on your NET?

Are you finished with all of your pre and co req? I also attend Dbc.

I am so sorry that you didn't get in... I will be praying that they do change their minds and let you in

I agree with CSantos. Study your butt off and try to ace the net. It could help!

Follow his guide (it is a sticky) It will help you!

Wow, you're right...they do tie your hands behind your back...that seems unfair!! It's a shame they can't open up more options for you to apply to. Is there any way you can look at other schools nearby...or is that the only option close enough? Either way...I sure hope it works out in the end. Seriously...don't give up!!! Keep your head up. It WILL happen! :)

This is pretty much the closet school. I did request some information packets from Seminole Community College and Valencia, but both of these are an hour away. I was also look at SJCC but they give out a ton of points for classes completed there, which I haven't done any there at all. This is like 30 points right off the top, then I dont live in the county for the other 20 points, so I figure I will try somewhere else. I know that Valencia has a waiting list, which I figure I should get on just incase, I dont get in my current school.

I am trying to keep a clear view on things! :banghead:

I'm not sure about the school you're applying to, but one of the 11 I'm applying to requires an 85 on the NET to even be considered for admission--so you might look into taking another math course, a test prep course, etc. Good luck!

My school reguires at 55 on the NET in each section and the same for Composite. I scored a 69 I believe.

Do you know if you can take just one NET and have the scores sent or do you have to pay to take it at each one?

Can you retake the NET??? That 69% is extremely low...ws that passing for them?? Everything looks good other than that...unfortuntely a high GPA doesn't cancel out a really low NET. Did your 4.0 friend get a low NET?? That would also be why they didn't get in.

Passing for our school on the NET is 50% for RN and 40% for LPN. My 4.0 friend had an 81% on the NET. I will take it again in August I suppose before the application period in September. I did really well on the reading, the math is what got me, but I got all A's in my math courses. The counselors at my school told everyone to wait until we finish college algebra to take the net, but I would have to disagree after taking it, they should have taken it right after intermediate algebra.

Yea...i recommed retaking it. Remember the 50% is the absolute lowest your school will take but you can probably assume that no one is getting in with a 50%, 55%, or even 75%. Think of it this way...your friend has a 4.0 gpa but an 81% on the NET, if you have a bunch of 4.0 GPAers getting 90% and above on the NET then unfortunately your friend will be the odd man out. Because in that scenario an 81% is not so good anymore, ya see. On the other hand, minimums are never what actually gets you into the program. Many NSG programs require 2.5 gpa minimums or 3.0 but no one with that is actually getting in...so...try to get a high NET to match your GPA and you stand a much much better chance!
