I completely understand. I aced all of my prereqs and my first rejection letter was a heart breaker. I sobbed all night. It was not pretty. I've basically been applying to the same program (upper division of university) for two years before I actually got accepted (this past April!). I know it's hard, working your butt off only to get rejected. But I kept trying, all the while finishing up another degree (biomedical science). So it's not like I wasted those two years applying to school. So hang in there, keep trying. It may take a while (believe me, I know :)). But if there's a will, there's a way. That's basically what I did. I was originally a biomed major, decided to change to nursing and did prereqs. Well, most of the biomed stuffs counted for prereqs. But unfortunately, when I'd applied for nursing school, I didn't get accepted the first few times, but I continued my biomed major with the intentions of graduating because I didn't want to waste time just applying to school. I figured I'd do the accelerated BSN as well. It is unfortunate, though, that I got accepted to nursing school when I'd only need ONE more class for my biomed degree and graduate. Haha. But I'm happy I got into nursing school. It's my first semester in and I'm taking that last class (biochemistry, ugh) in order to just finish up the biomed major. I guess I'll graduate nursing school with a double major. There's no problem with doing a major that's semi-related to nursing. If anything, you'll go in to the accelerated program with MORE information (i.e. biology, chemistry, organic chemistry if you need to take it) and you'll be more equipped. The microbiology class I had to take for biomed was MUCH MUCH harder than the prereq for nursing school. Right now I feel like everything is a review, especially when it comes to pharmacology, because a lot of it is chemistry, biology, some micro. It's nice :). Anyway, good luck with your classes whether it's nursing or biomed. :chuckle

This attitude, 3rdgenRN, is exactly the attitude that's keeping you from going to nursing school. There is always a way to become a nurse! Don't let anyone else (or yourself) tell you otherwise. I think almost every nursing program suggest that you don't work. But don't let that discourage you from entering the program. You should go for it regardless. Take the chance and cross that road. You don't know what's going to happen, but by letting the possibility of disappointment lead you, you'll never get what you really desire. I only wish you the best of luck on trying for nursing school :)

The same thing happened to me, though I heard about my 2nd choice first before my 1st choice. I accepted my 2nd choice because, hey, I'm going to nursing school :)! And if you get accepted into your 1st, all the better! Just tell the 2nd you're declining acceptance. You never know what is going to happen. Stick it in there and good luck!

Hi Cari and thanks :) I'm actually a full time student at USF right now and live about 5 minutes from campus. I am most likely going to stay with USF since financial aid and everything is already set up. Not to mention I'd most likely have to go back to school to get my BSN later to pursue something else in nursing in the future, might as well get it out of the way now, right? Now I just have to call HCC and let them know I won't be accepting, so they can give the spot so someone else. But if I were to go to HCC, it would be at the Dale Mabry campus, I don't think I could handle the traffic on I-4 to Plant City :).

Yay! I JUST got accepted (got a letter AND a phone call today!) to University of South Florida's College of Nursing! Start: sometime in May, as they have not told me anything >_ BUT I'm sooo excited, seeing it as I've been trying to get into that program for about two years! I got accepted to Hillsborough Community College (for ASN) but I think the BSN at USF will get me where I want to be in the future (CRNA! YA!). Congratulations to everyone starting this year! Wow, I haven't found anyone who lives in the Tampa area until now! I got an acceptance letter to HCC in March and have accepted! I'm so excited! However, I'm a full time student at USF and have been trying to get into that program for 2 years now and I just got an acceptance letter from them too! Now I don't know where I should go, HCC or USF? I don't know about the microbiology at HCC, but at USF, it's hard work. There is a LOT of memorization of diseases, their causes, etc, etc. There is definitely some work that needs to be put in in order to do well in any microbiology class. Good luck with your prereqs!!

Congratulations! I, too, just got accepted to my nursing school of choice (University of South Florida)! And I start this summer! I'm SOO excited!! And hi, everyone! I'm brand new and this is my first post. But I have been reading this forum for the longest time. It makes me even more excited to become a nurse because I feel like I know a lot already :)!

I will also be using that book for the microbio summer course. Yayness! :) I'm also taking the microbio lab, human nutrition, and stats. This will be a busy summer !
