OK, we got in, but now what? I am a detail orientated person and I want info! When can I start picking up things I need? What are those items?
I have really lost it! I went from thinking about getting in to wondering what to do/what to read/what to buy before class starts.
And how big of a backpack do we REALLY need?
Anybody out there from CLC have any advice? Help me before my family moves out of the house permanently (wait...maybe that would be a good thing:devil:)!
Did anyone notice that the CLC Bookstore has posted books for next semester? I'm not saying rush out and buy them, but when I checked for last semester, there was over $1000 worth of books if you added up optional and required books. This time the books (optional and required) add up to $560.01 for new. These are the required books:
Nursing: Universal Self-Care
Contemporary Maternal-Newborn Nursing Care (W/Cd)
Brunner & Suddarth's Txtbk Med-Surg Nurs Single Vo
Adn Program Handbook
And here are the optional books:
Manual Of Laboratory & Diagnostic Tests
Mosby's Dict Of Medicine, Nursing & Health Prof
Dimensional Analysis For Meds (W/Cd)
Brunner & Suddarth's Txtbk Med-Surg Nurs S.G
Saunders Nursing Drug Handbook 2008 (W/Cd Only)
2008 Mosby's Nursing Drug Reference (W/Cd Only)
Nursing 2008 Drug Handbook (W/Cd Only)
So, according to this, the total for new, required books is only $251.64!!! That's less that I paid for A&P, Sociology and Medical Terminology!
Hey, anyone else feel like they can't wait to go out and buy school supplies. Like pens, folders, ect...ok...I admit it I am addicted to school supplies! Anyone else ready to join an addicted to school/office supplies club??
:lol2:
You are so funny!!!
Awesome - thanks for letting me know. Wonder if I should go and write them down or something - where are they posted? In the bookstore or just outside? Wow, what a huge difference in price from last year!!!
I can't wait to just have everything ready to go!!! I'll join that club with you!!!
Oh, and someone had asked something about wearing scrubs to all classes/clinicals...I think we do, but I could be wrong.

not real sure where you got this info. unless for some strange reason spring starters are required to have different books than us fall 07' starters. you need potter and perry, nursing interventions and clinical skills, nutrition, psych, wong's pediatric, nur 171 module packet (photo copied "modules" that cost $50 alone) and a couple more that i can't think of off hand. so again, not sure who at the book store is telling you to get a med/surge book....that is for 2nd semester. regarding pens, get only black because that's all you can use on documents. you only wear your scrubs to clinical...not clc, you'll spend most of your money in your first semester because you'll get most of your books then and use them throughout the program. i suggest a binder for class and a binder for clinical. i bet they've killed an entire forest just giving our 10 person section (actually 9 now because one had a mental breakdown and dropped out) handouts that you'll use throughout the whole program. another thing, no one buys the optional books because the nursing program has its own little library where you can check out books if you need them. trying to save you a little cash.
You're right - there is no Potter & Perry. However, this list of texts is posted on the Online Bookstore from the CLC Home Page. I recall asking about texts at the nursing mtg and they said that they are thinking of revising their required booklist because some books will no longer be in print. On the other hand, maybe they are waiting for orientation to let us know? I looked on the other Nur 172, 271 and 272 and they only have 2 add'l req texts. Also, two of the three instructors are NEW to CLC...maybe they brought fresh ideas to the curriculum? Hmm...

Yep, I got the list of books from the CLC online bookstore. I had heard the same thing, some books would not be available so they were making some changes. Maybe they will add more as they get more info.
Oh, didn't realize it was already online...they are on the ball this year, huh? I'd say if that's what's listed, it's probably correct!!! Awesome!!! thanks everyone!
Tomorrow's the big day. Is it weird that I am nervous about signing up??? I think I'm just afraid that I won't get the section I'm going for and double afraid that I won't get either of the night classes I want!!!
Good luck to everyone in getting signed up for your first choice...I think if we're on first thing, we should be ok, right???
