Wayne state University or Oakland University Nursing School?!

U.S.A. Michigan

Published

Hi I am a pre-nursing nursing student and I applied to both of these Nursing schools. I haven't gotten my acceptance (or reject) letter In the mail yet .. I find out sometime this week! But I was wondering what do you guys think has a better nursing school? Any personal experience? Websites known for me to look up, etc.

Let me know !! :)

Specializes in ER.

I'd post it in Michigan forum and ask them what they think. My instructor for OB was a neonatal NP who graduated from Wayne State. Remember, people who are mad are more vocal than the ones who liked their school. I saw it all the time of people who graduated from our program that had failed out of another program and vice versa.

One thing you could try to do is to look up NCLEX pass rates and see if you can find numbers on the number of nursing graduates. I would also check and see if they are accredited from the ACEN/NLNAC or CCNE.

Thank you!! :)

I'm currently in the Wayne State Accelerated program and due to graduate this December.

Let me know if you have any questions about the process! I have a few friends who went to Oakland, but can't personally speak on behalf of their nursing school. So far, I'm loving WSU :)

I was wondering did you take all your pre-requisite classes at Wayne state? Because I took all mine at Macomb and I'm waiting for a response to hear to see if I got in. I'm afraid I won't get in because I didn't take all my classes at Wayne and I'm not

Sure if they take priority first. I have a 3.8 Gpa. I'm a little nervous .

I didn't take any classes at Wayne! Are you applying to CD2 or traditional?

Currently I'm in CD2 and my prereq GPA was around yours but my overall GPA was lower. Let me know if you have any questions! I wish you the best of luck ☺

I went to Wayne for the traditional program and only took a couple classes at WSU. The rest I took at Henry Ford. Some classmates took all of their's at WSU some took none. It really depended on your overall GPA and your science GPA,, and of course the interview. I really learned a lot at WSU. From what they say they have one of the highest Nursing School rankings and their NCLEX pass rate has been 100% for the past few years. (Keep in mind, this is just what they tell us, I have no way to verify the pass rates). Good luck!

I wouldn't say you'll get a bad edu from either. Wayne will give you an experience in Detroit hospitals for clinicals. I enjoyed OU, I did my PEDs clinical @ children's and was exposed to so much I just wish all my clinicals were there. (Level 1 hospitals vs. Suburban hospitals that send out the high acuity). I may be wrong, but you should look up where their clinical sites are.

I go to Oakland, and I love it. You will find faults and positives with both schools. I do have a question for you concerning Oakland, did you take your pre recs at Oakland? If you didn't they put you on the very very very bottom of the list to be accepted and I did the tours for the pre-nursing students and we had about 1000 potential applicants and they take preference to students who took classes at Oakland. So even if you have a 4.0 somewhere else they will take someone who has a 3.5-4.0 at Oakland regardless, just so you know. Good Luck!

Yea I had a 4.0 applying to Oakland university and I took all my pre-Reqs at MCC. Everyone thought for

Sure I was going to get

In, until I received my reject letter! I think that's so wrong because they obviously don't care about grades , they just care about their school. However I applied to Wayne with a 3.8 and took all my pre-Reqs at MCC as well and ended up getting in! So I'm very thankful for Wayne State.

Wayne has a great program! It has its hardships like any nursing school but you wont be disappointed!

Are you in the nursing program right now?
