Wayne State University, DET Waiting for Response

U.S.A. Michigan

Published

Hello, I am applying to Wayne State University College of Nursing in Detroit, Michigan for fall 2010. I have completed all of my requirements to be considered for an interview/ admissions (my application is complete). How long will it take to hear a response from WSU CoN regarding an interview and or acceptance notice?

Hi WayneStateKatie :D

What about HepB shot? Did you need to do that?

I had the HepB series done previously in the 90s so just brought my immunization record in to the student clinic and they noted all the dates on the paper (Thanks mom for being so on it and making me get probably every vaccine known to man!). Some others hadn't previously had the series. You just need to get the first shot in the series before clinicals start if you aren't previously immunized. You can finish the series while you're in school it's not a problem. The student health center staff can do any vaccines you need, and they always have free flu shots certain days in the fall too so keep your eyes peeled.

The center is staffed by great NPs and NP students. They do an excellent job and it's nice to just do one stop shopping for everything. I even use them when I'm sick too. My regular doctor never can fit me in when I'm sick and always tells me it's a 2 week wait so it's nice to know there's always someplace to go.

Congrats again- time will fly and next thing you know you'll be done with school!

Katie, Thank you so much for all the information. It seems at the Red Cross they have two courses...one is "CPR of the Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider" the other is just "CPR for the Professional Rescuer" They are both 8 hours. Any idea what the difference is or if it matters?

Hey grudgime -

I took the one for the professional rescuer and healthcare provider. In my class, there was girl who was doing just the professional rescuer one and she was working for her paramedic certificate. She did not learn the AED portion which we need for Wayne - she left before we started that part.

Hope this helps!

I called today about the CPR cert b/c I have the American Hrt BLS Healthcare Provider and they said, I need the Professional Rescuer which I registered for with American Red Cross.

Have you guys read all the requirements that are due by Aug 15th? I called about them, as the links don't work (and because I'm pretty neurotic like that), and was told we'll get all the forms at the orientation July 14-15. But I did sign up for the CPR class already....I am taking it through Red Cross and it's July 12 and July 19, in case anyone else wants to sign up with me!

I like you made a list and called with a million questions. LOL! I also signed up for ARC CPR, but I am going July 11 and 13th, otherwise I would join you.

Also don't freak out about all the clinical requirement stuff- they will hand out all the forms at orientation and it's very straightforward. I got all my stuff done at the campus health center for a fraction of the cost of any other location. You'll just need the forms they give you, your one card, and your immunization records (hopefully you have them. If not I think you may need additional vaccines or bloodwork done at higher cost). My physical, titers, urine drug screen, tb test etc was about $100 all together when I had it done 3 years ago as I recall. The student health center prices are unbeatable and it's very easy to get an appointment in the summer. You read horror stories about students at other schools paying a ton of money to get all of this done. We are very lucky to have the student health center as a resource!

Katie- Where do you get the "One Card"?

You get your one card on the second floor of the welcome center. You will need it for parking too (It cost $1.50 less per entry with the card or something like that)!!!!

Just to clarify that I'm looking at the right CPR course, it's the $110 one, right? Not the $40 class.

The one I signed up for is $110.

Thanks, Grudg. Do you pay for parking daily or for the year?

I was accepted to the CD2 program too! So excited! Can't wait to meet my fellow classmates.

Once you get your Wayne One card you can load money on it and use it for parking in any parking structure/lot. It costs $3 per entry. Or you also could get a prepaid parking pass for a whole semester (they are about $260-270). That way you can reenter parking structure as many times as you want without paying for it every time. But you will be restricted to one particular structure/lot. If you decide to get a pass (which is kinda nice, you can park in the am then leave for lunch and come back later without paying twice) I recommend you get a pass for Structure #1 (on Palmer St), it's the closest to CoN building.
