Wayne County Community College District

Hi Everyone! I attend Wayne County Community College District. I was wondering if anyone new anything about WCCCD's nursing program. Do they have a waiting list? If so, how long is the waiting list. Any info given will be helpful. Thanks!

I am curious, why you stayed as WCCCD if it is so bad. You said you were in M/S 4, did it just get bad at WCCCD for you? If a situation is so horrible, you should not stay in it. If you don't feel as if you are being trained to be a good nurse, why waste the time in the program. If you feel as if you are being abused by the instructors, why subject yourself to it? If you are "self-teaching", why pay money to go there? WCCCD nursing program is not the only nursing program in Michigan, you have options. I am not trying to be funny, you should not stay in any situation in life that makes you unhappy and bitter.

Some of us have many years in with this school, and at one time, felt the ultimate pride. I have not failed anything, but some of the Instructor's and administration leave a lot to be desired. I would not recommend this school to anyone considering it. Granted, I have learned a great deal, but have become very disillusioned. We would not "go find another school" when we are only weeks away from graduation and have 3 or more years of school under our belts with this school. Too much rides on becoming a "quitter", nope, you suck it up, and grit your teeth, and move forward.

I totally agree with you. I talked to a lot of people from HFCC, Schoolcraft, Macomb and there is different. I was fulled by the "no waiting list". When you are to far away, you can't wait to finish! Good luck in there to become a nurse!:nurse:

NO matter where you are, what nursing program you are, you have to study. Good luck when you are in the nursing program!

I was not trying to insult you or offend you in anyway, I was simply posing questions. Questions that I feel are relevant. As a mature adult, going into a professional occupation, I felt that those question could be discussed on this "discussion board" in a mature manner. If you did not want to respond, that's fine. I can respect that and truly wish you well. Also would congratulate you on almost being done with school.

And I am actually, in the nursing program at WCCCD, I just completed M/S 3 and I am currently in Psych. So I was not simply "running my mouth" on a topic that I am not familiar. The comments that I made were based on your comments and those of previous posters.

And it is interesting to me personally to hear different perspectives on WCCCD nursing program. But personally I could not and would not have stayed at WCCCD if I didn't feel as if I was receiving a good education to prepare me to take on the role of nurse. It is too serious of a job. WCCCD has not been all good for me but I take the good with the bad and move on. Again this was MY PERSONAL OPINION AND DOESN'T REFLECT ON ANYONE ELSE.

Even if you are not happy with what you have to go through, I think you have to get going, swallow your pride and get over everything until you finish, right? Anyway, I wish you good luck until you pass the finish line.

I am asking you something: do you think that you get a good education in this nursing program? :nurse:

Actually I do feel as if I am getting a good education and know that my skills are as good or if not better than some of my counterparts from other schools. I say this because when I accepted my two extern positions this summer, in orientation I successfully completed all of the check-off areas and when I got on the floor as an extern, I was good at it and was praised by the managers and other nurses for my knowledge, skills and critical thinking.

WCCCD produce good nurses and this is a fact. In the hospitals that I was an extern, when I said I went to WCCCD, nothing but good things were said about the nurses that came from our school. I am sorry that your experience was not a good one but my has been good (not great).

Well, I am off of allnurses, I have papers to do and chapters to read. Take care.

while it is important to be able to network, everyone should be mindful of the following:

  1. it is a small world - when we narrow it down to a state and throw in some personal info, there is actually a pretty good chance someone may recognize you if you are not careful. your privacy is paramount to us.
  2. while allnurses.com is a wonderful place to vent (without excess personally identifiable details) it is not the place to express why ("x" specific person, place or program) is terrible. gripe away, but since we cannot permit allegations to be made about named entities, your care in not naming them is very much appreciated.
  3. please do not give out personal information about others. do not name names where anyone could identify the person in any facility including your nursing programs.

hi im in my first yr at wcccd for nursing and trying to become a RN....im very confuse about the steps to take.

i dnt have any classes for nursing yet i just have eng115 and math 105..can anybody tell me whts next, or wht i should do?

Here is the requirements for WCCCD:

It is recommended that you take the coreqs (the classes listed above WITH the nursing classes) before you start your nursing classes, so you have more time to devote to just nursing and then clinicals. This would mean you'd take Lifespan, Nutrition, Patho, Sociology, Medical Math, Eng II, and the Government class BEFORE you actually start the program.

Hope this helps and try and sit down with a counselor to really get a feel for what you need to do. Especially if you are confused!

how is everyone doing so far in the nursing program?

Does anybody know if the GPA grades are purely off Pre-reqs or everything from every college I have been to? I was going in to get more info this coming Monday, but I have been feeling antsy.

Sorry for the ancient bump btw

The GPA is based on pre-reqs and co-reqs. If you took them at another school it will still count long as it is transferable from that school. They calculate your gpa with and with the co-reqs. They use the use the highest gpa out of the two.

When you say co reqs do you mean stuff like Intro to bio? Or does this include stuff like political science from a 4 year?
