Why or why not?
Nursing was not my first choice when I originally went to college. I started out getting my fire science technology degree but quit after I got married and had 2 kiddos. I kinda figured 24 hour shifts and my husband working for our sheriff's department that it wouldn't work out very well. So now I am taking prerequisites and hope to start next March in my schools program.
No, I thought that working as a nurse would be too much liability on my behalf. I did not want to deal with someones life in my hands and/or creating an irreversible mistake. I started college and was just pursuing my general degree because I had no idea what I wanted to do. As I started working (at a call center) doing customer service for a health insurance company and selling HMO PPO plans etc I learned that no matter what the job there will always be a lot of liability. Now I have made up my mind that nursing is for me and trying to get into the program and working as a CNA at a nursing home
Nursing was not my first choice when I entered college last year. It was psychology. I found out that a degree in psychology will not get someone a good job unless they get their masters. Not a good degree for someone who might want to get married and start a family in the somewhat near future. I switched to teaching and thought I would minor in psychology so I could be a school counselor. But the truth is: I had little passion and drive for a teaching career. It would be an easy degree but a challenging and stressful job full of the same little children all year. The idea of nursing came into my head and it made me excited and I actually felt encouraged to go out and get my schooling done! I love to help people and would love to learn about the human body and how diseases work. I have been a hypochondriac since a child and I think becoming a nurse might help me with that anxiety. I am completely up for the challenge! :)
No, it was not. I always loved nursing, and wanted to pursue it someday. I got married, and had a family at a young age. That meant I had to push that dream to the back burner. I am now, (that most my kids are a little older) starting out on fullfilling my dream. It is very challenging with life's responsibilities, however, with a great support system, and drive, I am excited to be doing it. Good luck on your journey. If nursing is something you have a passion, and drive for, don't let anything stop you! All the best!
I forgot to tell my story! Nursing was my first choice. I knew I wanted to be one even in high school. Senior year i was taking health classes to prepare. Unfortunately, I goofed off the first year of college (who doesn't, really?) and didn't take college as seriously. And that attitude carried on from high school. My second semester, I changed my major to Biochemistry. Bad idea. I wasn't good at math at all and that required a lot of math. I went back into Nursing, thinking I was a fool to have switched in the first place. And I've never been happier. I finally got my attitude in check and I'm doing a lot better. I couldn't have chosen a better career for myself. I'm ready to take on the challenge!
Nursing/RN was and is my first choice entering college back in 2003, I left right before 2005, due to a Lottery system in place in CA, I walked out of my College as did 3/4's or more of the RN Nursing students, all the Nursing students were informed of the Lottery (BAD DEAL!!!!) I am now back at the same College finishing what I started, Nursing/RN..........been a long road for me, but, since 2005, I have paid for a home/property outright, I have prior/past CNA and HHA experience, 95 to 2010, I WILL be finishing strong, Nursing/RN, am excited, and looking forward to it all.....ps- CA now has implemented a point system(my first ? to my College here)and God Willing I will be the Best RN I can be, serving the people, and working in what has forever been what I know, and my passion.....Never Quit what You Love, What you Excel in, and where you Thrive:))

No, I'm not much of a songwriter, but I wrote a lot of poetry and short stories. I wanted to get into novels.
