Honestly I feel the most important things to remember as a CNA are the dining times and whos continent/incontinent. With that being said, I recommend you take note of each patient, their dining and toileting schedule (continent,incontinent,foley,etc) and just remember what time to have everyone up and ready by. Other than that you should be fine, I was new once too and LOL I sucked basically had to be re-trained, I was so lost. Best of Luck :), you will be fine !

I am currently a part time college student completing my pre-reqs and a CNA working at a nursing home. For next month, I will be starting the Spring Semester taking BIO 201 and Nutrition online. For the BIO 201 class I am registered for a Monday/Wednesday Evening class but am on the waitlist for a Tuesday/Thursday Evening class, if a spot opens in this class I will register for this one but I wont know until January (classes start, if a spot will open). Schedule changes are due at my job though, for the whole month of January, my staffing director recommended Friday evening shift, Sat and Sunday day and eve doubles since I am so unsure of my schedule. Should I take this schedule or just keep my Monday/Wednesday class.. I am unsure what to do..

I am currently attending my local community college but my dream is to obtain a Bachelors of Science in Nursing in my home state of Arizona. I was wondering if any one could provide me with information on several school/my options? I am aware that the big universities offer it such as NAU, U of A and ASU. Another question is do these big universities offer payment plans of any sort? Only reason I am asking is because I am willing to take out loans in my name but my parents will NOT take out a loan for me to attend school (had previous problems with another sibling of mine) . Any advice would help.. THANKS :)

To start off I will be venting on the subject of resident falls in a nursing home and certain protocols as per my facility I work in. I work as a CNA in a nursing home and whenever a resident falls, whoever saw the resident has to complete paperwork(incident report), notify nurse immediately and take residents vital signs every 15 minutes for an hour, every 30 minutes thereafter, and every hour after that. What really makes me angry is when you go and notify the nurse that the resident fell/is on the floor they immediately get mad at you. I have had nurses make comments as to "every time you work my hall a resident falls" and basically blame me. I feel this is unjust because its not my fault the resident fell, I would understand if the resident fell while I was performing a transfer or I took too long to answer call light,etc etc but nope most of the resident falls are due to them standing up and being too weak and falling or trying to reach for something that was too far away. I also get upset when a resident falls due to the amount of paperwork I have to do and taking the vitals every so often, it takes away time from my day/other residents I don't however take it out on anyone, I just accept that it happened.

Honestly you are in a tough situation. I would say choose the job that offers the most flexible schedule ( if your planning on focusing on school as well), if not then chose the job thats pays more $$$

I remember my first day working as a CNA being in orientation following around a CNA trying to socialize with the CNA but also the residents.. very awkward. What ALWAYS works for me is asking the residents where they are from? If they are from the area the nursing home is.. that will easily start up a conversation about where they are from, their families, reasons for being in nursing home,etc etc always works for me :)

This might seem dumb but I decided that I wanted to be a nurse after working at a call center. Long story short I graduated from high school in May of 2013 with my CNA license but was scared to apply at nursing homes or find a CNA job because I thought I would have too much liability of the residents and mess up:/ so I applied at a call center in my area and was working there and the amount of liability I had was crazy! I was selling/doing customer service for a health insurance company and I had alot of liablity on my hands and realized that every job has a lot of liability in its own way and then decided that nursing was for me, to not be scared of "messing something up". Nevertheless, I am now doing my GEN EDs for Nursing and working as a CNA :]

No, I thought that working as a nurse would be too much liability on my behalf. I did not want to deal with someones life in my hands and/or creating an irreversible mistake. I started college and was just pursuing my general degree because I had no idea what I wanted to do. As I started working (at a call center) doing customer service for a health insurance company and selling HMO PPO plans etc I learned that no matter what the job there will always be a lot of liability. Now I have made up my mind that nursing is for me and trying to get into the program and working as a CNA at a nursing home

Ive tried looking at other colleges but they are the same. I hope people do drop it, but im also number 28 theres alot of people in front of me hahaha .. thx for advice :)

I am currently trying to obtain my Associates degree in Nursing at a community college and am working on my pre-requisistes and some other classes needed for degree. Thankfully, the only pre-reqs are BIO 201 and ENG 101. I however cannot find a spot in a BIO 201 class at all. The class size is 24 and I am number 28 on the wait-list, I will never get a spot. I have tried looking at online classes with Rio Salado maybe but I do not want to fail that class ... (I took anatomy in high school and barely passed with a D, teacher expected us to memorize LARGE amounts of info and 100 question test day after) . I feel as if I am wasting my time for simply one class. What do I do? someone help me..!!! Thanks !

Thats exactly what I told my nurse that I did not specifically say anything.. I even pointed out to her that I didn't even know his care plan so even if I wanted to I couldn't of said anything.. Yeah I will probably not be assigned to that hall for a while.. we rotate a lot in my facility

Ok and what do you mean by its HIPPA, what is?.. explaining what the nurse will do?

I work in a nursing home and today I had a residents family member (niece specifically) ask me if we put an IV on residents in nursing homes,if needed, because resident did not want to eat. I informed her that we pay alot of attention to the residents intake and charted meal percentages and that if we noticed he is not eating we will notify our nurse and she might contact Dr for options. I went ahead and let my nurse know what I told her and she said shes the niece that I was not supposed to release that info. to her because she does not have POA and to be very carefully with what I say. I was just sharing information about how we track residents diet, I didnt see nothing wrong. Am I wrong?
