2 warnings at once

Published

I received my evaluation on the 3rd. Good evaluation. One week later I was called into meeting on what a third party said and signed a paper stating this was not so. One week later.....I received a letter stating I needed to sign some papers in an envelope waiting for me in the med room and low and behold it was two warning papers stating a new aligation from a third party and another one (dated before my evaluation) stating a med error that a third party said I made back before my evaluation (never heard of it before and do not have a way of proving it wrong) and not completing an assessment on computer the night before. Two warning in one day! I had to work through the night worrying I was being set up for failure. I could not concentrate and had to tripple check everything due to fright I was going to get fired. What are the proceedures for warnings and being fired? How can they take what a third party said and how can you protect yourself from another person making false statements? I Check my schedule and seen who followed me on the next shift both days these aligations were made and it is a nurse who is a friend of the ADON. I feel pinned.

I was a bit confused about third party and notes (but I may need more coffee) and the general time line.

you get a write up if an assessment was missed? wow. Aligations are just that...where is the proof. I wouldn't sign anything.

Sounds to me as though someone has it out for you....

DON'T sign anything...

Our disciplinary forms state on them "signature does not imply guilt, only that you were notified". There is also plenty of space to leave your own "story".

I checked that I did not agree and left my statement. Here is a story.....

Out of nowhere RN gets 2 warnings

Visits work off hours to talk to the DON about warnings and finds the DON is quiting.

Story is from the DON that the ADON is replacing her

Nurse goes home and gets on facility site and sees the position is up

Nurse remembers telling ADON one day "as soon as I gain some experience I would like to try a DON position"

Well nurse wouldn't get a DON position with two warnings right

All positions are possible. Does it mean you could be the DON in this facility? Maybe, it dfepends on who does the hiring and their willingness to listen to you. If you move to another facility, this would probably never be known. Hold your head up and forge ahead.

Yes, it certainly sounds to me as if you have figured it out. I would seek another position in earnest. The workplace is obviously now a hostile one for you. Go on your own terms before you get fired, if that is even possible at this point. Good luck.

It is hard to be in a hostile work environment. I have been in a situation where lies were being told on me. I really needed my job and loved it's proximity to my home. But after some time, and several calls into the office I finally quit. I feared that my license was on the line every time I clocked in, and was so scared to make a mistake.

If you have to stay where you are at, focus on the real issues. Do your job. Don't do anything that you can't defend in court at the end of the day and you will be fine.

As a DON, the only concern I have, for any nurse, is did they do their job? Did they make an med error? Did they take responsibility for that error? I DO have to proceed with legitimate patient centered progressive discipline and it may very well result in two warnings or more, at once. I do try, though to call the nurse and speak directly to her/him, rather than "leave the warnings" in the med room (which I find higly unprofessional, even if the current DON is leaving..does she/he not have your cell number or email to talk to you directly and ask for you to come in and discuss and evaluate the problem?)
