Don't feel lonely, two agencies hired me and after five months, no work. I don't know why I bothered with them. One calls me once or twice to fill in at the last minute and the caller gets snotty when I return the call. I'm not very inclined to take them seriously. What bothers me is that I've essentially eliminated two employers from the short list of those that are in my area. Now how many does that leave and will they provide me with an income? That is the question. Good luck finding an employer.

I was guaranteed "as many hours as I wanted". I've always wanted to be a home health care nurse so this was a big disapointment for me. Basically I was just waiting for on the field training and would be ready to go. I just wish they would have returned my phone calls! I mean I would be fine with the job falling through but to not return my calls? I mean our we in high school???

Did the home care agency give you a contract? Did they promise you full time work in writing? From my experience with home care agencies the only full time staff they have with regular hours are in administration. Usally just one nurse in this position. Most nurses are told that the agency cannot guarantee a certain amount of work or hours. It is nearly impossible for them to do this. If a patient gets transferred to the hospital, looses insurance benefits, passes away, etc. then the nurse who was assigned to the case is out of work. In home care cases some patients refuses certain nurses. Etc.
Since you went through the orientation, your name is on a list to be called if they find some work for you. In the mean time you can look around for a job with more hours and use them as a reference.
In this job market some nurses dont put all their eggs in one basket so to speak. They have a part time job teaching, on call for a home care agency, etc. and have to piece things together to get enough work until they find a position that can give them full time work.
