Hi everyone. I have a question. I am currently in nursing school here in the US. When I graduate I would love to come work in the UK. It is my dream to live there. How hard will that be? I know I will need a work visa and get a sponsor. What else can I expect?
I also wanted to work in UK as a nurse. is it ok to work at the nursing home? i am a registered nurse here in the philippines but with no experience. Can I be qualified?
Getting a work permit will be hard and a nursing home may not meet requirements. I suggest a good read as much has been written about the UK and getting a work permit
And to add you will need to meet NMC requirements and if they require work experience then you will not get a PIN which will allow you to work as a nurse in the UK
Being a student in the UK will not make it any easier to work as a RN. Any work that you do in the UK if not as a nurse will not count towards nursing experience. Unless you are doing a course relevant to what you want to do and not as a way of thinking of getting into the country easier then go as a student but be aware if doing the NVQ courses then they really only count in the UK and probably have no recognition in other countries. Much has already been written about the UK and doing UK courses
The only advise I can give is that it will be hard without nursing experience to find a employer willing to assist you with a work permit. Very hard to get one if not from the EU and the UK has said on a few occasions that they are going to make it harder. Most UK hospitals will not even short-list you if not from the EU or have a work permit already unless the job is in the shortage occupation list. Also the UK is having a rough time economically at the moment and many businesses that have been around for decades are closing with unemployment on the rise. Also to work you will need to meet NMC requirements and do a ONP course
hi silverdragon102, i just want to know, if you are a student in UK taking NVQ4 program, then there is a chance that you can work as a nurse in UK (of course with a hospital experience before going there)?
You still have to meet immigration and work permit requirements and finding a employer especially a hospital will be very slim, doing NVQ will not make any difference in my opinion
"as a new grad you are really going to struggle."

jerrymaya they are not run by the NMC but validated by them. It will depend on where you want to live and which universities run the overseas nurses programs. They will all have similar content and assessments as they have to conform to NMC standards for registration
