I'm wanting to start travel nursing in New York City. Has anyone travelled here? Anyone have any travel company reccomendations?

Thanks!

Thanks-

My husband will be living with me- will they still provide the housing? Hopefully so, sounds like it was really good. I registered with CC yesterday so maybe I'll find out some more info soon. Thanks!

hey jellie,

im curious if you've heard back from CC? i've been reading through your thread because i'm also interested to work as a travelling nurse in NY...when the time comes, i'll be relocating from San Francisco to NY! i wonder if there are many L&D positions available in NY?

Hey-

Yes, I heard back from CC, they won't begin to process your application until you have at least 9 months experience..which for me will be March 1st so I didn't really get a lot of info from them.

I'm still planning on moving to NY but I've changed my mind about travel nursing for now since I will only have a year when I move.

I'm actually trying to get into L&D...every job posting I've seen says experience required but hopefully I'll find something!

Good luck with everything!

Wow!! I really enjoyed reading this thread. What amazing opportunities out there for us. I finish school next year and can't wait to see the options that are out there for me. I love NYC. I never thought of travel nursing to get there. Something else to keep in mind is Hawaii. My schoolmate said they are paying top dollar for travel nurses.

Just remember that as a travel nurse you are expected to know what you're doing and are thrown into the fire so to speak. There is no long cushy orientation involved. I have seen nurses without much experience jump into travel nursing and get more than they bargained for. This is especially true if you are in a specialty area. Some hospitals have a higher acuity than others. I think a lot of travelers will take an assignment and not take it seriously under the assumption that they are only there 13 weeks so who cares. But remember you WILL be evaluated by the hospital and your reputation WILL precede you in the future. Good luck!

Sorry to tell you that Hawaii doesn't pay that well. In the 20's. And it's expensive to live out there.

Hello. I was reading through this thread and there is some good advice. I did an assignment at Cornell and I really enjoyed it. I had a very similar experience to Caroladybelle. The nurses I worked with were friendly and helpful.

so funny -this entire thread is about moving into NYC, and I am looking for a way out! any specific questions, let me know. If you decide not to use the traveling option -you'll definitely have no problem finding a job on your own. There are vacancies everywhere. If you did use the travel option, you wouldn't need to extend your contract, you could find your own job offer in a NY minute.

I have been looking at NYC, but will only have 1 year in the ICU, and 1 year in med/post-surg/tele. Would I be able to get an assignemtn in the ICU or should I try to get permanent placement?

Thanks!

From my experience, most of the hospitals ask for at least a year and a half to two years experience for ICU. I get my ICU assignments from Access Nursing Services. They are constantly getting Med Surg and ICU opportunities. They have a website, so check it out!

Good luck to you!

thanks! They had an ICU/Tele position requiring only 1 year experience. Any local hospitals I should stay away from?

Billy5949,

I'm thinking of traveling there to move permanantly, but if I didn't, are there sign on bonuses or relocation bonuses to help with the move? I'm almost done with school and I am weighing my options. Also, I'm picking up the vibe that many of the hospitals in NYC pay salaries over houry rates?? am i right with this? Thanks in advance. I can use all the advice i can get...
