Wanting to re-take a Prerequisite at a CC??

Published

I want to re-take a prerequisite class, general chemistry, at a CC to boost my GPA since it's so competitive these days. But I got a B, and a B+ in my chemistry credit, and most CCs or anywhere I've read dont let you retake a class unless you dont pass...

Has anyone had this situation before? Im not sure how I would be able to retake the class???? Someone before said they retook anatomy/physiology while getting Bs at UC Davis, but then went to a CC and retook it. But how were they able to do that?

Thanks in advance!

If I am not mistaken, many cc's will not let you retake a course if you took it at that institution or at a satellite/same "district". I would try to make an appointment with admissions at whatever school you are looking at to see what they will let you do.

Has the school actually told you that you can't retake it, or are you basing this off of something you heard?

I'd speak with an advisor.

Im basing it on what the school has told me when i asked them via email if i could repeat a class that I got a B in. And also, there's information on many CC websites that say you cant repeat a class unless you meet certain criteria. I didnt take the class at that institution, it's just cross referenced as the equivalent of the same class and I dont know if I can take it. Sure I will speak with an advisor. :)

Find a school that will allow the retake, online course if necessary. I would not repeat a B grade course though. Too much of a chance.

You can retake any class that you want, but when it come to applying to schools they usually take your 1st letter grade that a C or higher. But as long as you don't plan on using that transcript with that other grade when your applying to schools then you should be cool. A B is actually a good grade

Yeah I understand that u can retake any class and the nursing school would take the higher grade. But I'm talking about the community colleges and whether they LET you enroll in a class you've already passed before because most of them don't allow repeats if you've passed the class. So what I'm asking is how to bypass this or.... Something?

IN THE BAY AREA THE CC WILL LET YOU TAKE THE CLASS TO GET A HIGHER GRADE, THE PROBLEMS COMES WHEN YOU APPLY TO A NURSING PROGRAM ITSELF THATS WHO GET PICKY AND WILL NOT TAKE THE NEW GRADE. tHE ONLY WAY TO BYPASS IT IS TO THROW OUT THE TRANSCRIPT BY NOT SUBMITTING IT BUT THAT ALSO MEAN YOU LOOSE OTHER CLASSES. THATS HOW THEY WEED EVERYONE OUT

In my experience with a SoCal CC, they let you retake whatever you want. I knew of many people who were from UC schools retaking their classes at a community college for a better grade. It happens. The community college doesn't care as long as you have never taken that specific class at that specific community college.

Lots of schools won't, actually.

You're right. Many wont, but the one I want to go to will!
