I am having trouble finding credible links to facts/information about H1N1 and seasonal flu.
*I would like to compare death rates between H1N1 an seaonal flu.
*Side effects and risks r/t H1N1 vacciniation. (2009 series, not 1976.) I can not find anything about the population it was tested on, or the numbers of complications or what those complications involved are?
And I know the 1976 vaccination has causes more deaths/complications than the actual H1N1, so where are the statistics for the 2009 vaccination? (GBS, fetal problems, ect....??)
All I would like are some credible links..... Thank you! (No News, No Gov't, No Blogs)

Hi FSK123,
I think that is a great question...I have wondered the same thing. This is something that we discussed in my government class. Unfortunately, I found that most people just regurgitate what they hear on talk radio (Glenn Beck, etc...) ... Most of that info is politically motivated, so scientific facts are not a great concern there. I did some research on this and found this website quite useful : http://www.health.harvard.edu/press_releases/h1n1-flu-more-widespread-than-lethal. There are more articles on H1n1 on that website. I also like the cdc, but that is a government website.
I also had this discussion with my microbiology professor who worked in HIV/AIDS research and has a great deal of knowledge in epidemiology... I found his reasoning quite compelling in support of getting the vaccine. In the end, it is not without some risk... so everyone needs to make the decision for themselves. Generally speaking however, as a matter of public health, I believe that the benefits greatly outweigh the risks.

Well, being as the government (or drug companies) are the ones who usually test and track these things and then scholarly journals then analyze and report on the results I think you will be hard pressed to find credible info that doesn't originally come from the government or drug companies.
Here are some gov't links: http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/results?term=H1Ns

I am thinking and searching for same. Best I can do is read each report and consider the motivations of each source. Then I look for trends and attempt to figure out the truth.
I share your frustration.
Thank you all for this great input on various sources.

i watched the first 10 minutes of this video and did not want to waste any more of my precious time. the first 8-9 minutes presents a fairly accurate representation of the novel h1n1 outbreak this year. and then this nun, who was apparently a practicing physician before joining the clergy, starts to take off on the baxter mix up of live h5n1 virus with h3n2 virus material in eastern europe. this has absolutely nothing to do with the current outbreak of novel h1n1 pandemic, so i stopped watching. here is why.
first, this mix up by baxter occurred in february 2009, several months before the novel h1n1 was recognized as a new pandemic virus. it is not related to the pandemic outbreak.
second, the two strains involved in this incident were h5n1 and h3n2, neither of which are directly or indirectly related to h1n1 that is causing the current pandemic outbreak.
finally, and most importantly, there are only four vaccine manufacturers that are providing the novel h1n1 vaccine in the usa. baxter is not one of those companies. when you make your own personal choice about whether or not to receive the novel h1n1 vaccination, at least make sure you are basing your choice on sound scientific data rather than personally appealing and persuasive, but incorrect, arguments presented in online videos or blogs.

Baxter International created the FluMist form of the H1N1 vaccine currently being used in the U.S.

Well, I am working for the county health department vaccinating people for H1N1. I went ahead and got the H1N1 shot today and the seasonal flu mist.
Figured if I have to inject all these people with the H1N1 vaccine then I better suck it up and get vaccinated myself.
I'll let you know if I have an adverse reaction.

That is absolutely incorrect. Baxter is not one of the labs licensed to sell influenza vaccine to the US.
The vaccines are made by CSL Limited, MedImmune LLC, Novartis Vaccines and Diagnostics Limited, sanofi pasteur Inc, and GlaxoSmithKline PLC .

If you are going to say something like this, you need to be prepared to back up what you are saying with a link to a credible source. You obviously know something of Baxter's reputation to even hint at such a thing yet you just drop that statement here with no proof whatsoever.
