Want to work in a doctor's office or clinic

Hello. I'm currently working in LTC, and after almost 8 months, it's time to move on. I have always wanted to work in an office setting and feel it's the right environment for me.

I have been watching the job banks/want ads for months and never see any jobs advertised for doctor's clinics.

I was thinking of just preparing a bunch of resumes and cover letters (addressed to each doctor) and dropping them off. I'm not sure if this is the best way to do it though.

As for the cover letters, is addressing them directly to the doctor's the right thing (Dear Dr. Smith)?

Thank you for any input.

Depends on what you are looking for. I worked in a clinic that had an office administrator and she did all the hiring with the team lead LPN at the interview.

If it's an ad for a specific office, it will have the contact info right there for you.

Specializes in Med/Surg, LTC/Geriatric.

Unless they are asking for a nurse, it's not worth it. Most doctors wouldn't pay a nurses wage or even close. They are cheap!! The only doctors who tend to hire nurses are plastic surgeons, cosmetic dermatologists etc. The average GP or specialist wouldn't.

Specializes in Acute Care, Rehab, Palliative.

It depends on what province you are in. Here in Ontario most doctors offices employ at least one nurse( I know one office has 1 RN and 2 PNs, for 3 doctors)but these jobs are much sought after and the turnover is very low.I would say it wouldn't hurt to hand them a resume. I know one RN that was the office manager of a 5 doctor clinic for years.

Out here they pay pretty close to union wage. Must be a regional thing.
