Want to relocate

U.S.A. Missouri

Hi, my enlistment with the Navy ended in April. I'm currently in school finishing my prereqs for nursing. I'm a single parent of two children ( 9 and 11). I'm so tired:o of Mississippi and can't bear to trifle with another hurricane. Any suggestions on cities or colleges to check out in the St. Louis or surrounding areas. My best friend lives there but she has no kids so i was hoping some moms or really great aunts could assist me with some advice. I'm looking for a BSN program since I already have an Associate of Arts degree in general studies and am max'd out on receving any aid at a community college so a 4yr college is the only practical solution since I could receive aid there.

Specializes in NICU, High-Risk L&D, IBCLC.

For BSN programs in St. Louis, your options will be University of Missouri-St. Louis, St. Louis University, Barnes-Jewish College of Nursing, Deaconess College of Nursing, or Maryville University. I would recommend researching all the schools because each one is a little different. I attend UMSL now and I love it, but I have no children and their schedule for nursing courses is not very flexible. BJCON has evening/weekend courses, but I've heard that it's a very expensive school. Also, check out each school's NCLEX pass rates at http://pr.mo.gov/boards/nursing/passrates.pdf.

Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, MO I believe is cheaper than the St. Louis schools. Small town though.

Thank you for the info. How do you like your nursing program? What' your daily class schedule like, clinicals etc.

I graduated about 5 yrs ago from Southeast Missouri State University. I enjoyed the school and the program. We only had two clinical days per week. I had six kids still at home when I went through. I did fine. Good Luck!
