I just got back from a meeting at Baptist in Jackson. I have lots of information on their new grad salaries and benefits. I'd be happy to share, if anyone is so inclined just let me know. If no one is curious, I'm not going to waste the time typing it up.
Tomorrow, I'll be visiting UMC in Jackson and Friday I'll be at Rush in Meridian. I'd be glad to share those details as well. :)
Hi! I know this might be a little late, but I was recently hired by UMC in Jackson. RN Graduates that did NOT extern with UMC start out at $18.50. Evening Diff is $22.00, Night - $23.00, Weekend Day - $22.00, Weekend Evening - $24.00, and Weekend Nights - $25.00. This is straight from a brochure we were given. I haven't started yet, so I guess I'll find out soon enough! -Jenn

UMC wanted me to work with them as well they also pay LPN years of experience for new RN grads if you upgraded....YEA~~
Any suggestions of where a new LPN can look for a job around Jackson?
If you prefer LTC or some Home Health facilities that would be an option they tend to pay more than most hospitals, but if your desire is to later upgrade to an RN I would strongly suggest the hospital the experience and exposure is priceless:wink2:
I wanted to move back to MS, but all this pay talk is scary. I know Connecticut is a lot richer than MS but starting pay here is around $60,000 and I know some LPNs that make $100,000 a year just from working a little overtime. Why are the nurses in MS paid so low?? or are the people on this board just looking at the wrong companies??

I think a lot has to do with cost of living in Conn vs Miss. Check out a cost of living comparison calculator online. I looked at http://www.bankrate.com/calculators/savings/moving-cost-of-living-calculator.aspx And a search of Norwalk, Ct Vs. Jackson,MS is a 32% difference. So for your $60k in Conn. you'd only need about $39K here in MS to live at the same level. Housing prices are much lower as are groceries, gas and other living expenses. I think though, that if you have the experience you should be able to get much more than these starting salaries (listed from up to 3 years ago).
p.s. I am not currently a nurse but considering the career. I've done a lot of research on starting salaries as that is a major concern for me in possibly changing careers.
Wow, I can't believe that Mississippi are paying the nurses between $16-20! I am not trying to knock nobody on this thread but my 22-years-old sister-in-law makes $16.00 per diem as a CNA in PA & plus the area she lives in it's a lower cost of living!!!! She were going to JSU in Jackson & were trying to get a job as CNA. They wanted to pay her $7.00hr and she said no way. But ended up transferring to Penn State where she'll be graduating this winter. No wonder my family & I are moving away from here. Good luck to you ladies with your careers.
Stephanie..will you be moving to that part of MS? The pay is better up north.
The pay is also better here on the gulf coast. New grads generally start out at around $19-$21/hr depending on your hospital. Also, they will take into consideration any years exp as an LPN and give you a little boost in pay for that, too.
