Want to be a nurse

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi I'm new here Ally 25 married and have 4 kids under 6. I want to go to school for nursing. Can anyone give me any tips on what to look for and such? I know I have to finish and get my GED working on it now. Will I need to take my SAT's or Act before getting into a school? I'm hoping to apply for a program here in Maine its 14 weeks $800 and it includes everything. They are night classes and at the end I can take the test and if I pass will be a CNA. I'd love any tips anyone has.

Ally

You are right, it isn't easy and I had a great teacher in the Learning Center working through the practice tests with me. I spent many mornings there practice practice and practice some more, especially math which is my weakness in the first place. But I did it! Glad your cousin passed it, too. At least he did it, many wouldn't go back.

He did...but his parents basically forced him to. They...eh...basically threatened to take away his car if he didn't. :clown: He disappointed me; he's not dumb, he just didn't see the point of going to school because his band was going to make it and they'd be rich and famous. :coollook:

He's 24 now and works at my father and uncle's company. He should have gone to college; he definitely could have.

What's the deal with Germans having to take the GED anyway? I read a post in another thread where another German said she had to do it too. We Americans are always being told how terrible our education system is and how much better Europe's is; it's weird that we'd force Germans to take the GED in order to continue in higher education. :scrying:

Good morning:smilecoffeecup:

funny I just read that about germans he he I'm german too and it is true people who come over from Europe usually don't have to take the GED b/c we can get our HS diploma evaluated. Unless, of course, he/she didn't finish school over there....then that's a whole different story....do you have the link to that thread btw?

If you have the link it would be great to go an see what is being discussed "over there".

I finished school over there, graduated from "Realschule" and even did a vocational training.

You know I try to look at the positive of it, having to do what I had to do solidified my English skills and I will be better at what I want to do in the future. It will all be worth it in the end.

Frohe Weihnachten :Santa2:

I already raised one son who is now 22 and will get married next year. He is in automechanic school....he always loves cars. I guess it's in his blood because his German grandfather worked for VW raising us :D

He was a very good student during Elelmentary and fair during Middle School. Smart as heck but also lazy :D He had us very worried in High School....there were days we were afraid he wouldn't graduate. Well, luckily he did but he definitely gave us plenty of grey hair. Raising teenagers is crazy and you just have to thank your lucky stars if kids don't end up on drugs, drop babies at our foot step or worse yet end up in jail :clown:

Your cousin may turn around....I guess he is still in puberty.

He's 24, his grades in high school weren't good, he never took the SAT, and he's learning the family business; I doubt he'll ever go to college. I hope he does, though. Luckily his little sister was better about school; she got her BS in only three years but didn't get into law school. Poor kid. :scrying:

I can't remember where I saw it, sorry.

Maybe he'll eventually "grow up" :clown:

Sorry about his sister, I guess it's really competitive to get into law school, too.

Thanks for trying to find it ;)

Maybe I'll find it during our break.

It is pretty competitive and she's very smart, but I'm sort of glad she didn't get in. I wouldn't encourage anyone to go to law school; there are too many lawyers and not enough work for them to do and unless she gets lucky and gets hired by a good firm, things could get ugly. I think she'd be better off getting an MBA if she has a burning desire to go to graduate school.

I wish her all the best. I didn't know about the lawyer situation, that's interesting.

Well you pretty much just described me lol. I sneaked by in high school never even took all the classes you need to graduate never took SAT, never took Math and had one science class everything else I took I passed with a D or failed even Chorus LOL. I did horrible all thru my school years I had a learning dissability and never got proper help, until.......I went to college. Yup even unmotivated lazy people go to college, of course I ran out of money because no one helped me out I moved out at 17 moved to a different state and tried to do it all, but 20 years later I am still plugging along with a 4.0

so never say never.

I wouldn't say never, but his problem was that he was not motivated to go because he didn't think he needed it. He doesn't have a learning disability; he's just very lazy about school, always has been...probably always will be. If he decided he wanted to go to college, though, I'd encourage him. I've never been negative around him, he gets enough of that already from his parents.
