Want to know more about the ADN

Published

I've been seeing posts about ADN and I'm just wanted to know more about it.

I'm currently a student at NU and planning on applying to the Nursing Program next year in April.

Could you be a little more specific? ADN = Associate Degree Nurse

What would you like to know about it?

There are other threads that might answer your question. Here is a link to a website with answers:

Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN) Guide

If you would like to know about a specific ADN program, I would go to the school's website and explore.

Hi Renathabest,

Are you applying to National's BSN program that starts in April 2015 or is that when you plan to submit your application for the cohort that starts in Oct/Nov 2015?

As for an ADN (associate degree in nursing) its a 2 year program where you get an AA degree when you graduate. You still sit for the same NCLEX as BSN prepared students.

If you get accepted into NU program I would definitely go there if you can afford it. With accelerated BSN programs now, its the same amount of time for ADN and BSN, 2 years. Also the pre-requests are usually the same minus one or two classes.

Also, I heard that by 2016 they would like for 60% of hospital nurses to have their BSN. It will only get harder and harder for ADN nurses to land a hospital job.

Good luck!

Yeah I'm applying to NU's Nursing Program in April for October 2015 cohort. Are you in their Nursing Program?

I already received my A.A. but not in Nursing because the time taken getting thay degree i could get my BSN .

Thanks for the information!

I have an AA as well but not in nursing. Like you I figured I can get my BSN in the same amount of time.

I was just accepted to the nursing program a couple of weeks ago. Our cohort starts next month. I am scared, nervous, and excited!

Are you taking all of your pre-requests at NU or a cc? I know they just changed the requirements and there are more classes now...

babeinboots congratulations!! :-) no not all of them, just biology and microbiology, but I had to take IRL 260 , BST 322 ( intro to biomedical statistics), and COH 317 ( introduction to public health) which are the new classes they added . but other than that im good to go I took all my pre-reqs at CSULA and cc.

I'm worried now because I received a C in BST 322 ,which dropped my GPA from 3.7 to 2.8 ( which is an pre-req science that the Nursing program looks at) ( took it online -it was horrible!) and I feel like I just killed my chances of getting into the nursing program. But I calculated it and if I get all A's in my other sciences ,I I'll get it back up to 3.68 . and I'm applying at the Los Angeles campus and they only accept 20 students into both cohort.

Thanx Renathabest. I took biostats at NU and am taking the nutrition for public health there now.

I understand your worries, this was my second time applying and I was an alternate at first. I got a spot the day before our orientation.

Yes, if you get all A's for the rest of the classes and do really well on your TEAS (85% or up) and essay, you'll have a good chance. The cut off score for guarantee acceptance has been about 83 these last two cohort. I had around 82.96 (I think, never got my essay score) and I was the first alternate. Or maybe retake the class if they let you and you can afford it, they don't count number of attempts anymore...

Good luck and don't give up, I almost did. Feel free to ask me any questions.

babeinboots thank you! ! I'm taking my nutrition course this month.

That's a true blessing! I'm trying to apply once and give it my all !

O ok thanks , I was thinking about retaking it and was thinking it would lower my score. I think I might do that :-)

I won't , Nursing is my passion, it's the only thing I want to do in life ! I surely will ! I know percentage wise calculations, but do you know how they calculate everything together to get your score?

Hey, sorry for being MIA. Busy, busy, busy preparing for next month.

I am taking nutrition this month as well! Maybe we're in the same class. When do you have your CLP sessions? Ours is on Tuesdays...

To calculate your TEAS score, you take your score, divide it by 100, and then multiply by 40. (example: 84/100=84 x 40= 33.6 So you would have 33.6 out of the 40 points) The GPA is a little trickier, usually people never get the same score as National provides. When I did it on my own, it was lower than the one National had on file. But you take your GPA, divide it by 4.00 and then multiple that number by 40. Lastly is the essay and you just take the score you get, divide it by 5 and then multiple by 20. I am using the new % of TEAS 40%, GPA 40%, and Essay 20%.

Hope that helps.

No problem, I understand . Yes it helped a lot thank :-) !

Ours is on Tuesdays at 6 pm
