Anyone applying for the 2019 class? Or have any interview tips/application suggestions? Most of my coworkers from the PICU who are currently in CRNA school were rejected almost immediately after applying to wake forest which I find concerning for myself but i'm applying nonetheless :)
I feel your pain JGTarHeel. I felt the same way you did last spring when I didn't even get an interview at the school closest to where I live (VCU) where I always thought I would wind up. I watched four other nurses on my unit (some with less experience and lower scores and GPAs) get interviews and acceptance letters and it was hard to take. I still honestly don't know what these schools are looking for.
I broadened my search to the neighboring state of NC and took a shot at ECU and was offered an interview just a few days after submitting my app. I was thinking "ok, someone is giving me a proper look now." I interviewed there and thought I did very well with it, especially on the clinical scenario. That is a small class and they only take 12, but I felt I was well qualified, but again was denied.
I had another few schools I was already looking at (UNC Charlotte and Allegheny) if I was denied at Wake because it is so hard to gauge how much of a chance you really have. There are just so many qualified applicants. A girl I am in class with told me she had a friend who was accepted in to VCU but was denied at Wake, which of course, is the opposite of what happened to me.

I have heard that the open response portion is not something that necessarily has a right answer or explanation. Their main goal is to see if you can take an unfamiliar topic and critically think about it. Most of anesthesia School is new and advanced and I've heard there is a strong expectation for students to be self-sufficient with understanding foreign concepts. I was told by a student that they don't necessarily throw an applicant out if they didn't produce a stellar response, but they have denied people who failed to give effort.
