Wake Tech Spring 2017 Start

Published

Anyone submitting an application to the nursing program at WTCC this upcoming July for spring 2017? Wanted to connect with others who may be in my shoes. I'm still working on some prerequisites (TEAS and CNA) but hope to finish them up by May. I will be transferring most of my prerequisites in from another school.

Is this your current situation you're speaking of 2BRN919. If so, we're in the same boat. However, I started to receive those "exceeded financial aide" things a while ago. Thankfully I've still been able to get loans throughout the school year. I believe it's because I've already received countless amounts of aide during my first associates degree and part of my secondary school back in NY. So far I haven't been denied and I hope they don't start now because this is when I, or we both will need it most.

Jpeters247, we are in the same boat then. It sounds like you haven't maxed out yet, just getting extremely close. I haven't officially maxed out, but I am getting close as well. I went ahead and submitted an appeal earlier this week. I won't know the result until mid June. I talked with financial aid and they told me that most appeals are approved, so I'm hoping that mine is approved. I have a previous degree as well which is probably the reason behind the exceeding financial aid timeframe emails. The loans that you are receiving now are they from the FAFSA that you filled out or are they private loans that you applied for?

Jpeters247, one more question for you... I've never requested financial aid through WTCC so I'm curious as to how long it typically takes for students to be awarded? When during the summer do students typically get their award? Someone told me June or July? Is that true? I know at my previous institution we didn't get an award until a week or two before classes started in August.

I filled out my FASFA late April and I've been awarded my funds this week. I need to accept or reject them. I have no grants, just loans through FASFA. They're pretty quick and besides if you're not taking classes this fall you should receive everything in time for Spring 2017. Of course we won't use half of what we're awarded because we won't use it until Spring. Boy am I pumped about these letters coming out in a few months. Anyway back to the aide, I don't think it's that late. They like to have the school bill paid way before classes start, or else they drop your classes.

Jpeters247.... Hmmm... I filled mine out in early February and I still haven't gotten an award. So we're awarded for an entire school year? Not just for a semester? It may be taking longer since this is my first time getting financial aid through WTCC. When are you accepting your award since you're not using it until spring 2017?

Do students typically get an email saying that their award is posted? Or are they just to periodically check WebAdvisor? How are students normally notified?

I just got an email stating it would be available sometime in September. What happens if I don't take six credit hours? Do I lose the aid?

gotgifgs3, I don't think any aid is lost unless it is declined whenever you go in and accept or reject what you were awarded. According to what I was told, if I understood correctly, it just sits on your account until it's accepted. If you say you're taking 12 credit hours and they see you're only taking six, for example, I'm not sure what they do. They may adjust your aid. I don't think you'll lose it though.. maybe just get less depending on how many credit hours you are taking. But I know you have to be at least part time (6 credit hours) to be eligible for aid.

Okay EVERYONE, I'm back. Had a major health scare. Though I was having a heart attack and turned out to be my liver/gallbladder. However, all is well and I still have all my organs and accessory organs. Yes that is true in regards to the aid being granted based on fulltime status. If they see that you're only signed up for 6 or less, it gets decreased and or taken away if its only 3 classes. Well not taken away but you wont be able to use it, you will have to pay out of pocked for less then 6 credits. I've already accepted mine and wont need the other half (because they divide it up amongst semesters) until Spring 2017. I also was reading some threads and the books are out of this world as far as the price, so I accepted the largest amount. However, the books are used all semester long.

Jpeters247, I am glad to hear you are doing well! I know that had to have been scary.

Oh no Jpeters247! That sounds so crazy! So glad you're okay! Are you taking classes in the fall? Did you get an email from WTCC when your award was posted?

Yes you guys! God is good I tell ya! It's so crazy because my son was there two weeks ago at the ER getting 13 stitches and both my husband and I were holding him and watching the whole process and it was quite a rush for me, my calling will be ER nurse. I feel such at home in there, like I belong.

anyway, my email came last week letting me know that the award is waiting for me to accept or decline. No classes for me this fall! I've taken everything there is to take. So let's day I have a loan for 3000, that would mean 1500 for fall and 1500 for spring. It's like an award letter also. Have you seen that yet. You will also need to do the whole promissory note thing also
