Waiting list of Nursing program in Bayarea

U.S.A. California

Published

Hi, dear sisters,

I am going to register some of prerequisite classes such as English and Algrebra in a community college this fall. This will be the first step to get into nursing program eventually. I was from China originally. And I have been living here for almost 4 years now. I just love California so much. I am hoping that I could be a nurse someday and living in CA the rest of my life. I had received college education in China. But I did not have any medical or nursing background. It would be a brand new thing for me. I am excited of it, even it would be a big challange in my life. I know that I have to finish all of perrequisites courses before registering an RN programm. So I am going to work on it this year and next. But its so difficult to get into a RN programm of any community college. There are 4 community colleges having RN programm, its also a long waiting list in every school.

So does anyone have same situation or experience on geting into a RN programm? Do you have any good suggestion? And would it be a good idea to go to those career college although they only have LVN programm? I need help from you all... Any informations would be helpful and highly appreciated!

Thanks a lot in advance!

I took my prereqs at DeAnza as well. Didn't make the lottery on the first go-around but am in the LVN program at Mission College. Plan to do a transition as soon as I get my LVN license. Thanks to the member who posted about the microB from DeAnza, I'll need to look into that.

Another suggestion, would be to try Gavilan. I know you're in Sunnyvale, but at Gavilan (Gilroy), they have a ladder program where (as I understand) you start with prereqs and CNA, then do their LVN, then their RN - all in the same school.

In terms of the private vocational schools, keep in mind that while they are state approved for LVN, the classes are not always accepted for transfer credit by ANY college with an RN program.

Good luck!

Hi,tropicbound,

I am very intrested in LVN in Mission college. Can you tell me does the entrance exam have to state pass to get in the program?Do they have a waiting list? tell me more about the details, please. I currently applied the RN program at De Anza.

thanks a lot

michekkecmwu..just a note, the post from tropicbound was from 3 years ago..just FYI

hi cutiebabyfat

Most of california nursing programs are so competitive to get in, I think you should apply many nursing programs as you can because you never know. While waiting, you can apply volunteer jobs at the hospital, which is very helpful for some nursing programs that have point system.

I did wait two years for nursing program in california however I got accepted into the nursing program in Denver. I decide to move back to california once I finished school. you should consider nursing programs in other states too because they are less competitive unlike California

Good luck!

Hey everyone,

I'm going to apply to De Anza's RN program this coming Spring. Does anyone know the average waitlist time for De Anza? I am also going to apply to Ohlone College, but that has a lottery system so I'm hoping for De Anza. Any thoughts or suggestions??

You might also look into applying to other programs in the area such as Evergreen or Mission. Your chances increase with each program that you apply to. Good luck.

Don't bother there aren't any nursing jobs out there anyways. It will only be a waste of time, energy, and money. In CA hundreds if not thousands of highly qualified RNs apply for every job. A lot of hospitals won't even consider Associate RNs any more they want nurses with a BSN, masters, NP etc...

I was about to say...ADN path is not the best way to remain in California.

BSN minimum....really MSN is more surefire route.
