Waiting on Ivy Tech acceptance letters thread

U.S.A. Indiana

I thought it might be nice to have a place for us to vent our frustrations with waiting until May 30th or so when letters start going out. I know I'm going nuts already!

How about introductions and a little info about each person?

I'm applying to both Bloomington and Indy-Lawrence for the Fall 2009 ASN programs. I turned in my apps this week with 4 As on the pre-reqs and a 90.0 on the TEAS. My eventual goal is at least getting a BSN, and if I feel like doing homework long enough, an MSN of some sort. I work full time now, but will hopefully only work part time if I get accepted. I'm so antsy to start preparing and finally feel like all of this is real!

Too funny! Yep, I grew up with quarter horses, maybe once I become a nurse I can support the habit again! It is an awfully expensive hobby! :)

Well I have to say, after Anderson's Information Session today I feel a lot better! I do know that on the day of Orientation I will have a sitter set to keep Rylan during that time so I can wait by the phone if I am listed as an alternate! Deadline is coming up fast girls!

Kara what did you find out at the info session today?

This is not correct information about placement into the ASN and PN programs, at least not at Indy. There is a cutoff number that the schools will take and if there are not 60 students that meet that number, then 60 students may not be taken. Why? Students with lower scores (lower grades) don't do as well. Ask around and you will find quite a bit of students who fail classes the first or second semester or both. I know quite a bit who have to retake a class.

The top scores in the PN do not necessarily mean that they will move students into the ASN slot. They still have to have good scores. The Indy campus can take up to 120 students...but doesn't mean that 120 students will get in if they don't meet the cutoff scores ( I don't know what it is). Some say it's easier to get into the PN program since there are not as many applicants, but if you are getting in with a C, you may struggle with the classes. And yes there are those who have gotten in with a C. Getting in is difficult, but also getting in and doing well is difficult.

When I went to the info session about the program in Indy, they said that they took the top 60 scores, and did not mention anything about a cut off score. If there is a minimum score, I am curious as to what it is. It does make sense to have a minimum based on what you said about being able to succeed in the program. At the session, the question was asked, what would happen if someone dropped out of the ASN program or did not accept their offer, and they said they would move someone up, as they do not want to leave vacant spots in either program.

If anyone else has clarification on this topic, especially about cut off scores, I would be interested to hear it. Nothing like a little more stress right before the deadline!

Well then maybe you need to take it up with the program chair because apparently you have the correct information and she doesn't.

I have all A' and an 87 on Teas. Not going to retake it a third time b/c I just don't think I can do any better. Applying to Greencastle, Indy, Columbus, Bloomington. Indy/Columbus are my top choices. Don't think I'll get into Bloomington but applied anyway. Kind of nervous so am considering applying LPN to Indy just in case!!!

Trying to get done ASAP b/c I have children to support!! I'll go wherever I get in!

I did not realize how hard it was to get into the Bloomington Campus...do they just not take as many students? I am sure you will get into Indy or Columbus. I was told by the office at Indy (unofficially of course) that any score in the mid to upper 80's should get you into the ASN!

I debated about taking the Teas again (I scored an 88) but, I felt the same way. I don't know about you, but the test I took was exactly the same as the first one, and even though I scored better the second time, without knowing exactly where I needed to improve, I didn't feel it was worth taking it again!

It is going to be a long couple of months 'til those letters come out!

I just always here stories that Bloomington is the hardest to get into. The nursing lady told us at our info session last fall that the lowest accepted that semester was All A's, an 86 on the Teas, and then 3 points for living in the region. i don't live in bloomington, so I woudn't have gotten in that time. I would have needed an 89 on my teas to get in there since I don't live in the region.

I scored an 88 as well. I am going to take it a third time though I don't know if I can do better.

The Bloomington campus is really hard to get into because of the limited amount of clinical spots. There is only one hospital in town that we can go to (Bloomington Hospital) and they have to have room for us and IU Nursing so that's why there's so few spaces. I know Spring start ASN only takes 10 students here and Fall takes 20-40 (I can't remember to be honest).

Oh wow. I didn't realize that only 10 ppl get in for Spring. I was thinking they took 60 a semester. I guess it is 60 a YEAR! Well shoot, I am definitely not getting in then. I know of like 5 ppl in bloomington that got higher teas scores than and they live in the region. indy and Columbus are my top choices anyway.
