After years of being a doula, I finally decided I need to go back and get my RPN diploma. I have to take a year of refresher classes :uhoh21: (sciences mostly) and then the 2yr program! Here's hoping in spring '07 I'll be working on the 'other' side of the room!!

what is a doula?

what is a doula?

A Doula is a woman experienced in childbirth who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to the mother before, during and just after childbirth. Trained Doulas understand the physiology of birth and the emotional needs of a woman in labor. Generally, Doulas believe that pregnancy and birth are normal, natural and healthy processes. This includes preparation for birth helping the laboring woman with encouragement, comfort measures, relaxation techniques, and an objective viewpoint, as well as support after childbirth, such as help with breastfeeding.

Sure wish I knew a doula when my daughter was born...my husband was a bit of a wimp. (Saying that with a smile on my face.)

Congrats Cheerio!!! *high fives* We are in the same boat, after several years of being a doula as well, I'm going into nursing. I'm going to have to take the same group of classes that I missed when I got my Bachelors (such as Chem, Microbiology, College Algebra - the stuff I do worst in :o ), but hopefully I'll be able to enter nursing school. Looks like it's going to be a few years though as I did not get in this time. They had 100+ apps for 25 spots - and someone was a little dishonest with me - I think that this school made ALOT of money on application fees and said anything to get people to apply. :angryfire

Anyhow, I can't wait to be with those on "the other side of the room." And yes, it usually is the "other side." :) Congrats and I hope you do well!!!

:balloons: congrats!!!:balloons:
