U.S.A. New York

I'm a traditional transfer student who applied to Wagner for 2011. I saw on this board that some people had interviews. Were you guys all in the accelerated? Has anyone received an acceptance or rejection? Does anyone know when we will hear???

Thank you ! Absolutely !

Miguel,

I have been reading your posts and the information is very helpful. I also applied to Wagner's 2nd degree program and I am scheduled for an interview. I am still taking some pre requisite courses and I am scheduled to take the TEAS exam in a few weeks. My question is I live in Bayridge and can easily commute to Wagner via bus S53 but will the fact I don't have a car make it hard for me to get around the site for the clinicals? Are most of these locations in SI? Thank you in advance. Virginia

Hi guys, I've been really into applying for Wagner, maybe for the next cycle. But for the generic nursing as a transfer. Is there anything anyone can tell me about this program of theirs? :):)

Jva13,

Well I like the small classes, I feel that they benefit you and allow for more individualized attention. Most of the professors are awesome, the pediatrics professor was an issue, but she has since improved her teaching methods. I expected a little more from this school, especially since it is so expensive.. I am happy that I came though. -- Just a few things you should know that they always fail to tell you.. 1st.. Passing is a 77, if you fail any class at any point you are held back for a year. 2nd. You must enroll in ATI, which is and extra $420.00, and take standardized test every semester.. These count toward your final grade in the class. 3rd. In the last semester you have to pass an ATI COMP test, if you fail you can retest, but after that you have to take a semester of remediation and that costs more $$... Finally if you pass everything and graduate, you have to enroll into a NCLEX review program (i.e Kaplan). The Accelerated program is very fast paced, but after a few weeks you will get used to the madness. The second semester has a high fail out rate (peds, OB, MED- Surg), and is a lot of work.. Despite all the listed above I am happy I came, work hard and you will be fine no matter where you go.. Hope I didn't scare you off. Looking forward to seeing you around next semester..

P.S. If you think of any specific question please feel free to ask. I will give you my honest opinion..

I was accepted to the accelerated nursing program for the fall 2011 at Wagner college. Before I take out the massive loans required to pay for the education at Wagner, I Want to make sure it is worth it. I want to make sure I will get a very good education (especially for that price). I want to know what their reputation is for turning out good nurses. At the end of the program, I don't want hospitals to not hire me because I was educated at Wagner and they think that to mean I have a substandard education. I got into Wagner but I know nothing about the college or the nursing program. Golfinrican (or any other wagner nursing student) Can you shed some light on my above concerns?

1) Can you give me any tips needed to succeed in the program?

2) I live in Brooklyn and do not drive. I will be commuting to campus everyday. I have visited the campus twice and it is pretty easy to get to especially since they provide a shuttle van from the ferry to the campus. But Is a car needed to get to clinicals? In what borough were your clinicals and did you need a car to get there?

3) How would you rate the quality of the education?

4) How would you rate the staff and the individual attention given?

5) Do you have clinicals and class on the same day or is it like to days of classes and then two different days of clinicals?

Wow really? Do you know how many students they admit since its only once a year? I plan on striving to get the highest gpa I can for both cumulative and prereqs. Your words gives me hope since I'm in the 3.1gpa range. I hope to get it to at least a 3.4.

I was just accepted to Wagner's accelerated nursing program for fall 2011 and my Gpa was 3.09. I got B's in the prereqs

Wagnergirl Congrats...

Okay.. Let me start answering these questions for ya...

1.. Key's to being successful.

  1. Do not fall behind
  2. Try to be organized ( as you will get a mountain of papers and hand-out etc)
  3. Stay on top of the reading
  4. Try and study alone and after you have reviewed the info- study with others

2. You may have issues at some point with clinical sites, but both sites we use on the island are easily accessible.

Staten Island University Hospital North, Richmond University Medical Center..

Some people did have clinicals in Brooklyn at Lutheran Medical Center. ( I am sure you could work that out with professor Woody)..

3. Quality of Education.. Now this is a good question.. I would say the education I am getting is decent, and the pass rate on NCLEX has been 100% the past few years. I think clinical instructors are hit an miss type of deal. I have had the good, the bad, and the ugly... I would say if you got into a cheaper school that offered BSN-- I would go there.. Its extremely expensive, but its fast so that's good to.

4. The staff for the most part is awesome.. Very helpful and they really look out for the students. The class size is smaller then most colleges, which is good. You can always get questions answered and instructors especially DeFazio are more then willing to work out meeting times.. But nursing is still a womans world, so it can get catty at times..

5. Usually you don't have clinical on the same day as theory, but you will have more than one class a day. Just be mindful that things are crazy sometimes and you have to flexible with your time..

Overall a very doable program. If you come to Wagner you will meet me, the senior 2nd degree class usually comes in and answers questions for the new cohort.. So feel free to post more questions if you have them, or point out anything I missed..

Good luck

Thank you so much Golfinrican,

You have shed a lot of light on the future for me. Unfortunately Wagner was the only college I was accepted to so I don't have a cheaper alternative. I guess I will be seeing you in September.

Thanks again.

Hey Guys!!

I was accepted in the accelerated program and was wondering if anyone was looking for a roommate! I'm from the suffolk region of Long Island and the commute would be horrendous so I figured an apartment would be necessary.

Thanks!

Jessica:D

Golfinrican,

1. How many students were in the program when you started and how many are left?

2. Will i be able to work part time?

3. What is the schedule like? Mon-Friday? And if so, is it every like that every semester?

Thanks in advance.

But there are lots of people who had low 3.0 for there GPA in both undergrad and Prereqs and made it in..

Hi Golfinrican,

I know you are on the accelerated nursing program and I am about to s

tart at the end of the month. I am registering and was wondering a if you could offer some Professor recommendations. The nursing school has sent me the list of courses I am supposed to register for in the first semester and some cases I have a choice of professor depending on which section I register for. That's where I am hoping you could assist in recommending which professor you think will be my best bet. I'm looking for a great teacher, that is helpful, kind and cares about student success.

Nursing 351 Clinicals I have a choice between :

1) ****

2) ***

3) ****

4) *****

Which would you recommend?

Nursing 351 CS I have a choice between :

1) *****

2) ******

Nursing 353 C, I have a choice between :

1) *****

2) Staff yet to be announce

What do you think of Prof. ****? Do you recommend him/her or should I take my chances with thew unknown staff?

Any insight you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

no potentially libelous information about specific schools, instructors, or health care facilities/entities should be posted in these forums. while it is important to be able to network, everyone should be mindful of the following:

1. it is a small world - when we narrow it down to a state and throw in some personal info, there is actually a pretty good chance someone may recognize you if you are not careful. your privacy is paramount to us.

2. while this site is a wonderful place to vent (without excess personally identifiable details) it is not the place to express why ("x" specific person, place or program) is terrible. gripe away, but since we cannot permit allegations to be made about named entities, your care in not naming them is very much appreciated.

3. please do not give out personal information about others. do not name names where anyone could identify the person in any facility including your nursing programs.

Hi there,

I am new to this site and was just reading some of your posts. I want to apply to Wagner's Accelerated 2nd Degree Nursing Program for Fall 2012. Do you by any chance know if the college accepts the Microbilogy and Anatomy & Physiology prereqs from the University of Phoenix?

Any info you can provide would be much appreciated!

Thanks
