Update on Western Australia's transition to the

National Registration and Accreditation Scheme

As you may be aware, the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law (WA) Bill 2010 (National Law) is currently before the WA Legislative Council and the legislation has not become operational in time for Western Australia to participate in the National Registration and Accreditation Scheme from 1 July 2010.

This delay means that the NMBWA will continue to operate under the existing WA legislation (the Nurses & Midwives Act 2006), with all of the associated WA registration & accreditation standards and systems. These include the requirement for nurses and midwives wishing to practice in WA to apply for and/or renew their registration with the NMBWA. For nurses and midwives moving to and from WA, 'Mutual Recognition' registration will continue to operate between WA and the new national scheme, the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). For more information in regards to applying for 'Mutual Recognition' registration, refer to the 'Registering to Practice' section of this website.

The WA Government anticipates that the national legislation will be passed in August 2010 and proclaimed and operational by 18 October 2010. It is anticipated that this date will be the new date for Western Australia's entry into the National Registration and Accreditation Scheme. In the meantime, you MUST be currently registered with the NMBWA in order to practice nursing and/or midwifery in WA.

Welcome nurses from WA to the new National scheme, I am calling it nurses without borders. Yahoo, all things to be the same nationally, thought I would never see it in my lifetime.....now just need the polly,s to drop of the states.

One quick and curious question: why is an American r(judging by your flag) reporting on Western Australia joining the national scheme? And why is it, allnurses, that I post any info on this, and I either get a hundred emails saying 'we all know' or my posts get deleted?

It makes an Aussie sandgroper nurse just wonder I tell you........

dunno, you can troll, be abusive and stay here as well....must have taken a dislike to you hey Carol, you must be from the wrong country!!

My life will be changing soon, so probably will not be on here much, hopefully will be finished with study and b.....essays and will be busy working full-time. theres a few people with the same views but on the whole I am sick of the Aussie bashing, calling our organisation inefficient, when its our organisation to be whatever it likes. I do take it personally its my professional registration board!!!

gee, the rego boards in the US of A can only have answering machines and never get back because of cutbacks to administration and take upteen months to register nurses and thats okay.....me thinks Australian state boards were too easy.

anyway keep in touch by private messaging if you like or i'll get around to sending you my email. seee ya C

On thinking further, people in glass houses should not throw stones.....about organisations that are inefficient.....

I'm planning on moving to WA soon and thought others who are in the process of registering would also like to know since I didn't find it in any of the message boards.

Thanks for the responses and sorry for people bashing the Aussies! :(

Aussie-bashing happens all the time over here in NZ, they know we love them really, especially when we beat them in the netball :)

Although they do have less earthquakes, I might get jealous...

Kiwi's are allowed to Aussie bash, its one of those trans tasman things, :lol2: but others can buzz off. Funny how some people cannot even look in their own backyard and see what ineffiency really is.

They must have paid the umpire in the netball coz we all know Aussie sheila's rule at that.

ok ok i am over it......i think....ineffiency.....ineffiency.............gone

Lol, good description of sibling rivalry :p

Wow anyway so I read the posters comment and found nothing sensitive or demeaning to anyone just putting information up. I do not think the post was meant to be inflammatory perhaps the "poster' lives and or works in Australia and is reporting on new updates in the nursing community. who knows tho just a thought and just out of curiosity Carol have you ever been to the U.S, lived in the U.S, worked in the U.S? I have been to both countries and spent alot of time in BOTH and they are both full of the same old bureaucratic baloney!

If the original poster took offence, I am sorry.....mean't for other posters on international thread that believes waiting more than 2 months for aussie registration is inefficient of our professional organisation and another from same forum is a drongo and is allowed to keep posting even though the posts are to cause debate and then flames replies.

Carol, who is from WA, and an aussie who was effected by all of this, says she gets posts removed for posting the same type of information as the original poster. who is American.....

Actually we all were aware of WA's slow joining of AHPRA months ago in July when national registration began in July.
