  1. I'm planning on moving to WA soon and thought others who are in the process of registering would also like to know since I didn't find it in any of the message boards. Thanks for the responses and sorry for people bashing the Aussies!
  2. Thought I ought to share this: From: http://www.nmbwa.org.au/2/2243/50/national_registration_and_accreditation.pm Update on Western Australia's transition to the National Registration and Accreditation Scheme As you may be aware, the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law (WA) Bill 2010 (National Law) is currently before the WA Legislative Council and the legislation has not become operational in time for Western Australia to participate in the National Registration and Accreditation Scheme from 1 July 2010. This delay means that the NMBWA will continue to operate under the existing WA legislation (the Nurses & Midwives Act 2006), with all of the associated WA registration & accreditation standards and systems. These include the requirement for nurses and midwives wishing to practice in WA to apply for and/or renew their registration with the NMBWA. For nurses and midwives moving to and from WA, 'Mutual Recognition' registration will continue to operate between WA and the new national scheme, the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). For more information in regards to applying for 'Mutual Recognition' registration, refer to the 'Registering to Practice' section of this website. The WA Government anticipates that the national legislation will be passed in August 2010 and proclaimed and operational by 18 October 2010. It is anticipated that this date will be the new date for Western Australia's entry into the National Registration and Accreditation Scheme. In the meantime, you MUST be currently registered with the NMBWA in order to practice nursing and/or midwifery in WA.
  3. Hey all... I'm an American RN with a BSN and I was just wondering if anyone knows about nurse practitioner programs in Australia. I've looked at University of Newcastle, University of South Australia, and University of Queensland but no programs are available for international students. Any information is welcome. Thank you. x
  4. Hey there KMiller I'm the same way. My boyfriend is a doctor (in the beginning of his residency) in the UK so it's harder for him to move here in the US and be an doctor because, to my understanding, you pretty much have to start over all over again. So I'm opting to work and become an NP there instead. I am an RN with a BSN in the ICU for 2 years now and I'm thinking of applying to MSN programs in the UK. Like what the others have said, NP programs are not yet developed as it is here in the US. I'd like to share what I've gotten so far with you and hopefully, this will help you as well. Here are the schools that are offering advanced nursing practice: Universities and Advanced Practice Programmes (Note that it is preferable to go to an RCN (Royal College of Nursing) Approved program since it recognized and the RCN has actually set guidelines rather than each college making up their own.) I have found this website useful as well: NPUK How to be a nurse in the UK: http://www.rcn.org.uk/__data/assets/pdf_file/0006/163509/UKemp.January.2010.pdf This is the organization that license nurses in the UK: The Nursing and Midwifery Council: Safeguarding health and wellbeing | Nursing and Midwifery Council This is the packet that helps you become an RN in the UK: http://www.nmc-uk.org/Documents/Registration/Registration%20information%20trained%20outside%20Europe.pdf I hope this helps you. It's a lot to take in especially for people like us who have minimal knowledge about the UK system. Good luck on your plans. x
