Volunteering/Experience

Published

I am in a college trying to transfer to a 4-year university to get my BSN but I have NO experience at all. No part-time jobs, or volunteering experiences.. Is it going to be hard for me to transfer?

The best person to answer that is the admissions advisor at your target nursing program. It's different everywhere.

Specializes in Anesthesia.

I wouldn't think so, but I agree with the previous poster that the admissions office would be your best bet. I am currently enrolled in a 4 year college and hopefully *fingers crossed* that I am accepted into the BSN program by January. It is VERY competitive. Good luck!

Depends on the school. Some schools focus more on stats rather than experience so if you have good stats, you'll be okay with those schools. But generally experience does help. What if you get into nursing school and you realize you hate it or its not for you? That happened to an acquaintance of mine. She has doubts now and recently had to be pushed back a year and couldn't graduate with her class because she realized nursing wasn't for her and slacked off a bit. Just FYI... Try to do some volunteer to get some perspective.

Thank you for the answer guys! But why am I having so much trouble to get a volunteering spot? How/where did you volunteer?

Contact hospitals, they usually have volunteering spots. Also, volunteermatch.org will put you in contact with volunteer groups in your area. Hospice is another good avenue, and it will give you a little experience in end of life care.
