Volunteer at the hospital

Published

Has anyone here volunteered at the hospital? If so did you like it? What was your experience about it. Do you think it's good to volunteer before starting nursing school?

I recently submitted my application to volunteer at a hospital and I got an interview but I don't even know what to expect at the interview !

Hello,

Volunteering is a noble and honorable way of assisting others. So, if you have the time, I encourage it. I started out in the healthcare field as a volunteer at my local hospital and loved it! I got to have some exposure to different areas of the hospital and got a taste of the different patient populations, the work pace, and internal processes. All valuable lessons for a healthcare student. It will also be a window of opportunity for you to meet others and find out if you really want to pursue nursing or a different role (such as phlebotomist, radiation technologist, surgical technician, pharmacy tech, etc...).

Go for it! :)

I am going to start volunteering at a hospital next month. I think it is a great thing to do because not only are you helping out your community, but it gives you an opportunity to see what it would be like working in a hospital environment. Some hospitals will allow you to shadow nurses and help them out as well.
