Volunteer in ER

Specialties Emergency

Published

I am interested in getting my ADN eventually and am interested in the ER side of nursing. I am an outdoor emergency certified technician, which is similar to an EMT basic and Im current with my CPR, and was wondering if they allow people like myself to volunteer in an ER dept.

This will also give me a feel for, if this is something I want to pursue.

I dont expect to be standing around a gurney treating a patient, but would like to help out where I can, without getting in the way.

Do any of you know if your hospitals allow this, especially in the Denver,CO area, where I am?

We have EMT's that work in our ER as techs. After appropriate classes and working with a preceptor they can draw blood, insert foley's,assist with suturing, splinting, all under the guidance and supervision of the nurses. They also transport pt's to their rooms and run blood to the lab. Check out if they do this in your area. It's good experience for you and you get paid.

Good luck in your goal to be an ER nurse.

We need you!!!

We use students (nursing, medical, emt) in our ED as vollunteers...... they help transport, run errands, make up stretchers.....they are a great help.

To bad you don't live in MASS.

Howdy yall

from deep in the heart of texas

We have volunteers, who run errands not only for us but for the patients too, and we have techs also, who keep real busy. Particularly when Gladys is working, Its a joke all techs are assigned to zones, except 2 who are assigned to the Gladys zone, and they hate it. But other wise have fun

If you want to do it then by all means go for it, rory

keep it in the short grass yall
