Voice Recorders?

All current SRNAs,

What suggestions would you give incoming students on choosing a voice recorder for taping lectures? What do have and how is it working? What would you buy if you have to repurchase? Looking for models that would allow you to download to computer for storage.

I will soon be a SRNA myself, I plan on buying a PDA with a mic, so that I can record parts of lectures etc. That way I won't have to have a separate recorder.

I used just a cheap voice recorder that used tapes, many people in my class loved the digital cause they could download it to computer and burn it on to cd's. That came in handy for long drives. I found myself though not really relistening to the lecures that much due to me already having notes of my own plus preprinted ones. I could read much faster than the lecture went so I always found myself trying to outpace the tapes. Good for reference though.

I have the olympus DS-330. Works great!

love my olympus:

i think the one truama nurse was talking about it the little black one mine is the little blue one with camera. (never used the camera)

however I recored every single lecture. the blue one I have I think its a w-10 or somthing dont quote me can only hold about an hour so I downloaded every break, The other one holds more I think so you don't have to download as often.

what I did was download the lecture to my comp. then later in the library I would upload it back to the recorder which played it back to me via head phones at double speed. so i relistened to every single lecture we had in A&p wich it about 158 now. this is in addition to taking my own notes in class. as I listed to the lecture later I made small notes on in the pre-printed notes (stuff he added or left out). then I made note cards from the pre printed notes and walked around the library memorizing them.

this process seems long and tedious, It is. but it works. I am much more than passing which gives a wonderful peace of mind. I dont know where your going one bit of adivise I got was to neve get behind. in the beggining concepts might be basic. stay on top of them anyway.

has anyone had any experience with any of the sony recorders or pda's? I already have multiple Sony items that use their memory sticks and would love to find a good recorder or PDA that will use them as well (that way I can just carry the sticks and upload them at the end of the day).

Hi Demo,

I too would like to use my Clie UX-50's voice recorder function during lectures when i start school this August. If you already have a Clie that has a voice recorder function, then you wouldn't have to spend $300 (a sony voice recorder with memory stick slot costs this much on their website!) for a digital recorder that will accommodate a memory stick. If you have a PC, then you can upload your recorded files for storage into your hard drive, but, I don't think you'd be able to play back from your computer (i'm not sure bout this...coz, I am an Apple user, as I am still figuring out how to do this on my MAC  ).

I too, was tempted to buy that Sony digital recorder (I'm a gadget freak :chuckle ). But, I need to be more practical and use what I already have. It all boils down to how much memory sticks you have to be able to store hours of lecture time.

Hope this helps.

the irock that I have is a great one. I is a digital voice recorder and an MP3 player. It has 64MB memory which is plenty for any day of lectures and has 4 mailboxes so you can divide up each class that you have for each mailbox. The only downfall you will find with these is that the batteries get used up pretty quick so what I did is buy a re-chargeable system and bought 2 rechargeable triple A batteries. I download my lectures on my computer and then I can go back and play them on my computer or like many of my classmates do burn them on a CD and play them on the way to class. I researched this last year and looked over several hundred and I thought for the price this was a good deal. I highly reccomend it and all of this can be found ar Radio Shack. Good luck!

I used a Sony Clie PEG NX 70G PDA as a voice recorder, worked perfectly. I recorded an entire semester of lectures in 2 classes without filling up the memory stick - 256K I think. The files can be dragged and dropped to your home or laptop computer for easy listening. Great little piece of equipment.

WntrMute2, you really recorded an entire semester of lectures with out filling up the memory stick? That just seems amazing. Can you please confirm the amount of memory that you used? I'm shopping around for a pda myself and am very interested in recording capabilities. The most I've seen advertised was 10 hours on one memory stick. Thanks in advance...

Hi,

I recently bought a 1G memory stick from the Sony store and it will record over 24 hours of audio if set on SHORT PLAY. If you set it on LONG PLAY, it will record over 60 hours.

I chose to buy 1G because I also can store databases for Anesthesia programs, pics, games, etc.

I have the clie UX-50 model.
