October 09 Visa Bulletin

Back to the topic, I feel bad for the foreign nurses who went to school with the expectations of employment in the USA. I don't for see the situation getting much better. I would encourage those of you waiting to counsel students not to go into nursing with idea of gaining employment in the USA. It is going to take away for the US economy to settle down.

I would also counsel nurses who can't find employment as a nurse to get whatever employment in the mean time. Nurse recruiters will look for what you did when you couldn't find employment as a nurses.

Foreign nurses are also in the dark regarding how difficult it really is to get a visa to come to the States. They think it's easy to get the tourist visa and adjust their status to green card from there. But in reality it goes beyond that, they have no idea that they'll be waiting for years at the chance for a visa.

When I read some the bulletin, some dates went back to 2001. That's eight years. Also what happened in 2001? 9-11, and because of that the borders have gotten tighter, and it's harder for anybody to obtain a visa especially from the Arab countries.

I would like to stay here but I have plan to go back to Japan. I will see what I can do after I get MSN. I chose public health nursing instead of nurse practitioner just because I don't want to study really hard and cannot practice here....

I suspect they are still trying to sort out the fiasco that happened in July 07 when over 800,000 applications was filed. We may get a more reasonable number/date in a couple of months

We applied then and our attorney just told us today not to expect anything for AT LEAST another 3 years. Kind of what I was thinking too (that means 5 years total). That is a lot more than ever before and can't imagine it will get easier as time goes on.
