VetPro credentialing question

Published

I have applied/interviewd and completed everything for a VA position. The last thing was VetPro...which was basically the exact same thing/items as I had already provided. My concern is the references which were called and now being mailed reference requests and I have no idea if the people are still in the same dept. they were before. I also know one of the places will not deliver mail to employees unless they are management. I did tell this to the HR person but she didn't really respond. My concern is this part will hold up a job offer. I don't understand if my references were called why there needs to be a written letter sent as well and this could end up taking a long time. I thought about waiting until the first of Feb. if I've not heard anything contacting HR - for those of you who work VA, would this be acceptable or should I just not make any contact and assume they will eventually let me know one way or the other?

Thanks.......

One of the previous posts mentions Vet Pro won't accept an unemployment gap of more than 90 days. I had a contract position that ended in late Dec 2012, five months ago. I have been looking for a job ever since. I was also home raising kids for 13 years before I went back to work. I worked there for five years before the contract job which lasted five months. I am told I have been selected "tentatively" for a VA position and am waiting for the email telling me what is next. Any insights on my stints of unemployment?

VetPro & Equip both will not accept employment gaps of over 30 days, meaning you just need to account for the time and provide someone that can verify what you were doing. If you were unemployed for 5months, you will list Dec 2012- Present, "Unemployed", it should provide a field where you type in "someone who can verify" what you were doing. They frown on using family members but in some instances that is hard to avoid.

Thanks, 79Tango. I have a good friend who is an RN at a local hospital and is aware of the frustration I have experienced over the last 5 months while job searching. Would it work to use her? I also knew her while I was home for 13 years with my kids. Everything is taking forever to move ahead. I am still in the running for some jobs (other than the VA job) but the process is very slow. I think I would like the VA job so would love to speed that one up!

Can you makes changes in VetPro once you have added all your information and submitted the form? I had one reference that is holding up the process and I am looking to add a different one.

I'm not sure but I would ask the person who emailed you the VetPro instructions. I was unable to print off all my VetPro info bc my printer wasn't working. You get locked out after you submit, I believe, but I contacted the person who sent me the VetPro instructions who was different from the HR Nursing person. He allowed me access again and I printed off my info so I would have a copy for myself.

Hello Marshall1, this will hold up the process but will not prevent you from getting the job. Working in HR for the VA as a while checking credentials we have a certain amount of references and work history before you can be cleared. My suggestion would be to contact the HR department and as them to open your file so that you can give the good contact numbers and addresses so it want take months for you to start working. I have seen it take up to three months for someone to start working because of various reasons such as transcripts, work history, references, ect... the more accurate the information you provide the quicker they can verify your credentials.

All I can say is:

WELLCOME TO THE VA!!!

Get used to it or it'll drive you crazy.

There is no reason or logic.

It's OK to have gaps in employment. Just write down what you were doing, even if it was unemployment or taking time off to travel...whatever. As long as you have someone who can vouch for you that you really were travelling or unemployed.

I too am in VetPro limbo. Job closed 5May14 interviewed a couple of weeks later. Submitted VetPro 25 June 14. Fingerprints and physical 1 July 14. As of today 26 July 14. Finger prints back , physical approved. VetPro still outstanding. I was informed that until it comes back I am tentatively hired but no start date till VetPro is finished.

The thing I am worried about is with all the Doctors, PA's and nurses they are about to hire, how long is normal turn around going to be. 6 months, a year?

Every situation is different. Be sure your references return their forms right away.

That is my problem. I was told they had to be a superviser for VetPro. 3 of my last 4 managers no longer work with my last employer. I additionally was asked to provide peer written references to the local HR and did. I am unsure of the status of the VetPro. It would be nice if they had a way that I could find out hang ups and help expidite the process.

I would call the Vetpro contact and ask. I would also call or email the nurse recruiter and explain the situation. This has happened before. Can you track down any of those former managers on LinkedIn?
