VetPro credentialing question

I have applied/interviewd and completed everything for a VA position. The last thing was VetPro...which was basically the exact same thing/items as I had already provided. My concern is the references which were called and now being mailed reference requests and I have no idea if the people are still in the same dept. they were before. I also know one of the places will not deliver mail to employees unless they are management. I did tell this to the HR person but she didn't really respond. My concern is this part will hold up a job offer. I don't understand if my references were called why there needs to be a written letter sent as well and this could end up taking a long time. I thought about waiting until the first of Feb. if I've not heard anything contacting HR - for those of you who work VA, would this be acceptable or should I just not make any contact and assume they will eventually let me know one way or the other?

Thanks.......

You have some valid concerns and most likely you are in for a very long wait.. I would get a good email contact for the HR person and let them know the situation and new people to contact, ASAP. You will also need to log back in to VetPro and update the contacts there. Use the ones that you know will check thier mail and get right back.

If not, It will take VetPro 4-5 weeks to realize those references are not coming back, then it will take another 2-3 weeks to reach out to HR, which will take 1-2 weeks letting you know they need new contacts.

I saw someone get hung up for months because the VA wanted a verification from Manpower (who hadnt had a nursing division since the early 80's) and wouldnt move on until they got one.

The trick you will need to master is following up without bugging them--Good Luck!

Also, when you call the VA try to get a fax# from HR and ask if they will use a faxed copy until the orginals are mailed in. You must then contact your references with the fax# and tell them to hurry.

Thanks for your reply...everything is correct in VetPro...They called the references I know that factually but are now following up w/mailing. Since its going to be such a long time I am going to move fwd w/another FT position I have been offered. If/when the VA gets back to me I'll take it from there. I understand employers have to check things out but this seems like an overkill...lol...but..I guess it's their ballgame :)

Think of it as getting a security clearance. Some of it is overkill and often redundant but will pay off in the end. Plus you only have to go through it once, after this you are G2G at all VA's hospitals across the country (and they honor ANY state license). Im guessing it was the hiring manager that called your references to see if they wanted you. That is not the same as whats mailed out through VetPro. Also, if you have not ordered your official transcripts you might want to that. You will be doing yourself a favor by sending them and yourself a copy (do not open). It was a good idea to start working this could go anywhere from 2weeks to 6months.

You are correct - it was the person I interviewed with that called people. I ordered my transcripts over a week ago and confirmed they were mailed to the contact person in HR so basically I'm waiting for the VETPRO items. I am hoping the 2 wks would be closer to the time frame than 6 months...I was able to remain PRN where I"m at now through the end of Feb. but basically was told if I can't go FT after that then I will have to remain PRN which is not good because it only amts. to 2-5 days a month...I'm going to try to skate a little longer..thank you again for your input. It helps!!

Has anyone heard of the VA actually asking for letters of recommendation. It seems like the other VA's don't follow this policy. I'm trying to understand why my VA would ask for actual letters of recommendation when I must complete vetpro regardless. Any insight would be helpful.

Maybe they are going to skip mailing the references since you can produce written ones...would move things along faster I'd think than having to wait for them to be sent and returned.

I believe this question has been addressed, the local VA/hiring manager's must include references with your employment profile. Those references have nothing do with what is mailed out through the VetPro people. The VA has there own reference form on VA letter head that must be filled out and returned with an orginal signature. That is completely seperate than turning in old letters of recommendation or clinical evaluations.

It seems really redundant, I provided the nurse manager with references. The nurse recruiter asked me for 3 letters of recommendation addressed to the VA. It has been a hassle running around collecting letters of recommendation from different nursing professionals ( two are in the DNP program & have hectic schedules), especially when vetpro will send them something in the mail to complete anyway. I don't see the purpose, but I guess I will find out later on this week when I go for fingerprints & physical. Thanks :)

I was able to get in touch w/one person in HR yesterday. All she would tell me is she was waiting for "a couple more things" before all of my credentialing process was complete and that the VETPRO information I completed had been closed so if I needed to add/change anything she would have to re-open it. I too think there is a lot of redundancy but if this is what they require we have no choice if we hope to work there.

Good luck w/your physical wife&mommyRN, it's not bad and the fingerprinting is quick and easy as well.

Im sure it will b well worth it in the end :) I have all of my paperwork in order. My supervisor has called around and she is able to write the letter if recommendation :) I informed her that vetpro will be sending her a generic form if they still need her to complete the form. Thats a huge weight lifted off my chest. Thats great news that u only have a couple more things, theu wont specify what it is they r waiting on? Sounds like ur almost to the finishline Marshal1 :)
