No one can specifically tell you what your program will consist of unless we've attended it.

I have no idea what to expect at orientation or when classes begin.

Orientation should basically be an overview of expectations, schedules, equipment requirements, etc. That's where they will tell you the majority of what you need to know and it should be a good time for you and the other new students!! If it's anything like my school, they will give you a ton of encouragement and helpful advice!!

As for not knowing "when classes begin", if you seriously don't know dates/times, you should feel free to call your campus nursing staff to see if you can get some information ahead of time. For most of us adults, it's usually imperative we are able to schedule work, family, and other obligations in addition to nursing school!!

Good luck and just keep putting one foot in front of the other and take it one day/week at a time!!

Hi Karen

First of all, welcome to allnurses. You have come to a great place for info, encouragment and support!!

Secondly, CALM DOWN!!! Breathe!! You will do just fine. I am in the same boat, and scared to death. Especially after meeting my department head yesterday when I took up some papers to get her to sign. A schoolmate of mine who is in the 3rd semester of the ADN program calls her "the one who never smiles!!!" And after seeing her yesterday and talking with her briefly, I believe it!!! She was not at all friendly. Great news, huh???

Anyway, you have gotten this far, you will be just fine. My orientation isn't until the 15th of August, so I won't know anything about my program either, until then. The LVN program just had their orientation yesterday and my good friend went to it, and she still didn't learn much more than what she already knew. Hers was only 2 hours long, though. Maybe mine will be a little different, because it is 2 DAYS long, from 8-6 both days! :uhoh21:  It freaks me out that orientation is that much different for the 2 programs!!! Oh well, we will see how it goes!! Hopefully I will learn more than what she learned!!!

Anyway, my point is, this is unknown for most of us. So know that you aren't alone! Many people have gone before us and made it through just fine, and we will too!!

Ditto, calm down and breath. Spend time enjoying life right now...you'll have all of nursing school to worry lol.

Also- just be aware...that for some orientation can be encouraging...but not always. Just take in the information and keep going. I felt deflated after orientation. They went over so much all I felt I had gained when i left was how little I knew. They told us about statistics...made us look to each side and told us one of those people next to us would not be graduating with us. It was all very intimidating. THey went over all the ways to be booted from the program, requirements, failures etc...

Just when you're done with orientation, or even during it...remind yourself why you want to be a nurse and keep on with it!

don't worry! be excited! i'm in the same boat. my classes start aug. 20th, but surprisingly i'm not that nervous, just anxious! i can't wait to start! anyway, it's cool to feel that way, it's just like any other thing that's new to someone. we're scared of the unknown, and have no idea what to expect. so naturally your gonna have some worries and doubts. just know that this is what you wanna do, and nobody can tell you different! i think at orientation, you'll start to feel a little less petrified, b/c you're gonna meet all your classmates that are feeling the same way you are, so it should make you little more at ease. my orientation is next week for one day, 3p-9p. i'm excited to meet some of my new classmates. good luck to you, and don't worry about it, we'll both do great!!

Im in your same boat Im starting this August and Im nervous!!!!!!!!!!!!!
