Very happy I became a nurse practitioner

Just wanted to say: I am very happy I went for it.

I just started my first NP job a few weeks ago and I can confidently say: it was 100% worth all the blood, sweat, and tears.

I did land a sweet gig with two of the most wonderful doctors so that helps a lot.

I did work 8.5 years in med/surg and while it probably led me to be kind of depressed and hate my life (because it sucked), I see smooth sailing, in my future, because it made me well-seasoned and taught me so much. It also allowed me to get this job and many job offers before graduation. Not bragging just want to encourage people to put in the hard work because it does pay off.

I'm still in clinicals and haven't finished yet, but I know I made the right decision. I've always wanted to be on the provider side of healthcare and I am thoroughly enjoying my clinical experiences. I am so excited to look towards graduation and start working.

I’m also extremely happy I went for it! My background is in ER and ICU mostly. I did a one year fellowship and now I work for a large physician group as a hospitalist and I can honestly say that I love it !! My pay has doubled from an RN, and I am very autonomous .

I would love to be a hospitalist when I'm done with my program (dual ACNP/FNP). I have an ICU background, but I don't necessarily want to be an NP in critical care, as the residents do most of the interesting cases (teaching hospital). I go back and forth between ER & hospitalist on where I eventually want to be. I'll have to see how I like ER on the NP side. I always enjoy my time when I float to ER to take criticals. I'd be interested to see what it's like on the provider side. I know our night shift hospitalists well and they have a variety of scheduling, which is appealing to me (7-on-7-off, three 12s, four 10s, five 8s, weekend only, etc.)

Yes, I do 7on and 7 off. I will honestly say the 7 on are rough, but the 7 off are heaven !!
I was an ER nurse for 14 years and I don’t miss it at all. The docs get most of the interesting stuff in the ER and I see the NP/PAs doing the easier stuff and the stuff the docs don’t want to do . I love my job as a hospitalist and I even get to do procedures cause it’s a small hospital . Best of all the worlds !!

Hello, I was offered that kind of shift and there was a catch. No PTOs. Is this the case for you as well? So meaning I can't have a vacation longer than a week!
